Past Players Day 18th June

Last week State League took on Williamstown in conditions that we have not seen for a few years at the Town Hall. Very wet and slippery.
Starting off dominating the face off it looked as we were in for a good day.
Early passages of fantastic offensive play got us off to a good start and appearing to be in control of the game. Going to the half time break at 6 a piece and gathering momentum we came out in the third quarter to get the first goal and take a 7-6 lead.
With 3 one on one goal opportunities missed one can only wonder how it may have been if those easy shots had gone in. But they did not and at this point in the game I felt some heads went down and we proceeded to get Slaughtered. Yes I make no mistake in using these words as that is exactly what happened from that moment on. We were unable to match Willy in any aspect of the game until the Final siren. This was one of the most disappointing games I have been involved in for 30 years since I started coaching and I have no problem in stating a Fact.
Malvern 7 Willy 19.
This week we come up against Eltham at home and this game will have a significant impact on Our Finals chances. It is a must win game and most importantly a Winnable one as well.
Putting our performance of last week behind us we look forward to redeeming ourselves this week and as I have mentioned before if we can put it together for a FULL 4 quarters we will beat anyone.

On another note we had past players day last Saturday and we had our special guest Daryl Parsons Down from Brisbane. As I mentioned before Daryl is the grandson of one of our very famous Past players Robert Coldstream. Daryl brought with him some amazing memorabilia which
he has now donated to the club. It was displayed in the clubrooms and I noted some very old photos of Malvern teams one of which was a B Grade Team of 1904.
There was also some Premiership medals on display dating back to 1912, 1923, 1924 and 1925.
We will be leaving this display set up for this week’s game so if you have not yet seen it I suggest you venture down and have a look this Saturday as it will be archived after that.

I would also like to wish our 3 boys Tim Graham, Darcy Campbell and Jordan Campbell all the very best for the World Series. They depart this coming Sunday morning to take on the World and I have no doubt they will represent their Country and The Malvern Lacrosse Club astutely.
It was great that as a club we were able to raise some funds for them to help a little bit with the very high price they have paid for this honour.
I would especially like to thank Allan Datson, Michael Hilsberg, Margaret Pearson and Roy Spiers for their generosity along with all of the people who bought a ticket in the big draw to support the boys.

Gary Campbell

***Editors Note***
