Match Reports

State League

We got the win.
The preseason wasn’t what it has been over the last few years but the people turning up have been training well over the last few weeks. With the loss of a few from last years team this season will give a lot of opportunity to younger players wanting to take their lacrosse to a new level. Congratulations to the three debutants Joe Blakney, Will Leong and Joe Forster. Malvern got off to a great start 4-1 in the first quarter and things were looking good. Camberwell managed to slowly chip away and at 1 point regain the lead. James lead the way with 6 goals for the day, 3 in the last to get us over the line. At times when the attack was moving we looked great. More work needs to be done here. Thanks to Gus and Rocket for coaching on the day. Their knowledge of the game was a massive help.

Division 1

BYE

Division 3

Melbourne Uni.
After a frustrating 1st half where we played with no bench we managed a break 1 – 0 up at half time.
We settled down found their weakness in clearing forcing turnovers and putting the ball in the back of the net.
Tom Bown and Aaron Currie playing their first game of seniors for the Red and Black with Uncle Mick and Dad Brad to support them. Well done guys you both played well.
Hopefully we can find so more players to fill the bench in the coming weeks.
9- 2 Malvern final score

B Grade Women’s

Away at Footscray 14- 4
Where we had first game players Sue, Tarryn and Reece slotting into the team all three played well with Tarryn playing in Defence along side Romy who did a great job with her onfield coaching controlling the back line before sliding forward to score a few goals. The game was level at 2 all until we took control of the game by shutting down their feeding from behind the goal line. After that we put on the goals with ease. Special mention to: Leanne almost assisting goals from the Cage with fantastic outlet passes to the centre line. Tara for really breaking open their forward line and Sarah for some high percentage shooting. Nina for running hard in defence. Everyone pulled together to put away the first win of the Season with Malvern B grade on top of the ladder. Well done girls a great start to 2014

Under 13 Girls

Malvern U/13 Girls V Eltham The girls got off to a fantastic start this week out at Eltham, beating the home side 8-1. We welcomed Brianna and Victoria to the team and both were brilliant in defence and running through the mid field a couple of weeks and a little more confidence and they will both be exciting additions to our team. With our star middie Jenna in a moon boot, Eden and new recruit James out, we were down to 9 for the first round, Eltham had similar issue and we agreed to play 8 on 8, Sarah who had told me at training she ‘can’t shoot’ opened the scoring for us and scored again late in the game with a fantastically well placed bounce shot. Meg ran hard all game and her ground balls were brilliant, she scored once for the team but should have had a few more goals instead of giving the goal keeper a couple of bruises! Jacinta started in attack and scored twice as well as putting on some great pressure through the midfield. Paige also scored and is the type of player that I can put anywhere on the filed and she will get the job done, awesome skills and solid D. Brooke and Emma were outstanding!! pressuring in defence and forcing turnovers all over the ground, They both scored once and were a little too unselfish when ‘shot was on’ passing to team mates sometimes resulting in turnovers when they probably should have gone to goal. It was my first game coaching these girls and I loved it! I’m so excited to watch their skills and confidence develop over the season and they are all such great listeners and so keen to learn It makes training a easy. Well done girls!! So proud of you all – don’t forget no game this weekend so you can all make your mums breaky in bed! Also no training this week we will have a break and be back next week – Next game is our very first HOME GAME against Williamstown.
