Finals Fever….

Yes teams are in finals and its all happening again!

One thing I’d like to touch on is “Sideline coaching”.

Understandably everyone is excited and wants the best for the teams competing in finals this year.

After speaking with a few coaches it was made aware that ‘other voices’ were confusing the players.

If you could leave the coaching to the ‘coaches’ then the players and coaches won’t be distracted as to what message is being relayed.

This also includes any ‘interaction’ with the opposition players especially junior teams.

I welcome loud cheering and clapping as that is the best ‘fuel’ for any player that is competing in these very nervous times.

Thanks in advance…The Prez

~Senior Presentation Night~

The Senior presentation night is on the 18th October at Milano’s in Brighton (Same place as last year) and is $80 per head or $150 per Double.

Last year was a ripper and we encourage everyone to come along and have a great night.

`Junior Presentation Day`

Junior presentation day is Sunday 20th September 11.00am Sharp at the Town Hall.

-Positions for 2015-

With Season End of 2014 approaching it is NOW time for people within our tight knit club to put their hands up.

MLC is looking for people to fill committee roles for 2015 and NOW is the time to start asking.

MLC is also wanting to lock in coaches for all grades so if you are interested (or you wish to recommend someone) NOW is the time to speak up.

Remember forward planning is the key to success.

Finals beckon for Malvern

*Salts of the Earth*

We have a potential sponsor that is offering this free trial to Malvern Members.

Just 1 min walk from the Town Hall and could be a great benefit to our members

Here’s what Seane has to say.

“To Malvern Lacrosse Club”

We have recently opened a new centre and would like to inform you about Salt therapy and its benefits.

Salt therapy is designed to relieve congestion, inflammation and allergies of the airways and skin conditions. It helps relieve the symptoms of asthma, bronchitis, cold and flu, hay fever, croup as well as eczema and psoriasis.

We use pharmaceutical grade salt which is ground up and dispersed into the air in the form of a dry-salt aerosol

There are set session times which take 45 minutes and all you have to do is sit back, relax and breathe. The centre has an Adults room, Childrens room and Private room.

Please find attached a complimentary session pass on the right hand side for you to print out. Simply call, email or drop by the centre and we can book in your session.

We look forward to seeing you soon

Regards

Sean Ewinger

“Relay 4 Life”

As in previous years the annual “Relay for life” is back on again

Malvern Lacrosse Club working with Murrumbeena Bendigo Bank have the opportunity to get a “team” together for this years event on the 11th-12th October.

What I’m asking for is someone to head up this event.

It doesn’t have to be a ‘committee person’ and would be great if a group of individuals could take this on board.

If you think you’re the person for the job, could you email to committee@malvernlacrosse.com and we’ll give you all the support you need.

Or for further Information please contact

Loren – 0407 633 725 or loren.lawford@gmail.com

Thanks in advance

Match Reports

State League

State League played Chadstone at home for the Stonnington Cup.

Pat dominated the Face Off from Start to Finish which makes a huge difference getting 1st use.

Patience in attack was the main game plan for this week, making sure we did not waste the ball.

This area of our game was the best it has been all season and proves that there is no rush to throw 20 goals in a game.

Defence was solid all day with Gal leading the way marshalling the D.

Some great transition work out of our back half culminated in some real good fast break goals.

Our ground ball “Hard Get” was up on previous weeks and we need to continue in this area heading to Finals.

It was also good to have multiple goal scorers rather than relying on 2 or 3 players.

This game could possibly be the turning point for the upcoming Finals.

Without getting carried away it was our best Team performance so far this year.

Malvern WIN the Stonington Cup for the 5th Year in a row. 20-4.

Goal scorers. Gaz 7 , Billy E 3 , Fish 2 , Derek Zook 2 , Sammy 2 , Will James 2 , Barnes 1 and Josh 1

This week we play Surrey for the right to progress to the Prelim Final.

GC

Division 1

Reports of ‘rogue’ Division 1 players were spotted at various games throughout the day…

Chances of more sightings this week are high!

Sue Veneer

Division 3

I was able to get to see 1/2 of the game out at Caulfield last week.

The sun was out on a beautiful day, dogs were running around the park and Div 3 took to the field with……. 11 !

Yes that’s right folks 11 players.

Playing against Footscray who outnumbered us, the boys had to play, dare I say it..’smart lacrosse’.

Translation: Don’t go toe to toe with them cause their numbers would prevail.

Good use of the ball was key and looking for the best opportunity when it arose.

Having “Team Ansell” in D was a rare treat too!

As the game panned out Malvern were victories and get to play again this week.

They’ll need your support as they’re up against Altona who will give a very hard fought match!

Robin DeBank

B Grade Women

Well to witness one of the best matches that the women put together ‘ever’ was a pleasure to be at!

Up against Newport who we knew to be ‘physical’ was never an easy task but everyone playing their position well, made it very tough for the opposition to register more goals than they did.

Very selfless game play by all the Malvern girls was witnessed by the huge crowd that gathered at footscray.

Sharing the use of the ball and looking out for their team mates is what the girls did and came away with the win!

Everyone played well but a quiet little girl called Maddi Croll had a cracker of a game!

Next week Vs Williamstown at Greenwich!

It would be good to see another crowd there to support them on their next step forward!

Dee Lightful

Under 18’s

Last home and Away game for the Under 18s saw us take on Caulfield / MCC combined.

Darcy dominating the face off got us up and running quickly scoring 7 to zip in the first.

Into our High School rotation down in attack saw the Malvern boys scoring some classic Teamwork goals.

Down the back end there was lots of good defence work happening and some very good doubling work and sliding with the body and Not the stick.

Even though our opposition did bring the ball into their attack, our defence was on song and repelling all that came at them.

Glenn “Rubber” had shown the boys a new man up but we had to wait until the 3rd quarter to get our 1 and Only crack at it.

It worked so our new man up play is currently running at 100% efficiency.

Goalie Tim Samoilov was dragged for the last quarter to play in attack and got open a couple of times but, did not quite get the Nice pass he required.

Tim has been a rock since stepping into the cage.

Working hard all year for a spot in the Finals, the boys achieved just that with Teamwork at all costs.

Goal Scorers. Jordy 4 , Danny T 4, Ross Sandler 1 , Joey B 3 ,Darcy 3, Alex K 1 , Rob L 2 , Rup 1 and Screaming down from Defence Nick Maher 1

Nine goal scorers and most of our goals were assisted.

Final Score Malv 20 v Caul/MCC 3

Next week the boys play a do or die semi final against Moreland/Eltham combined at Altona starting 10.30am.

We would love to have some extra supporters there to cheer this young TEAM on.

Under 15’s

The Malvern Under 15s  played Williamstown in the first round of the finals. With Willie finishing first and Malvern second on the ladder after the home and away season it was on the line, the winner going straight through to the Grand Final with a weeks rest.

Malvern put in a fantastic four quarter effort this week in a tight game. With the boys down by 1 goal at three quarter time, a 5 goal to 1 final quarter sealed the win for Malvern 10 goals to 7.

Malvern will go on to play the winner of Altona and Williamston in the Grand Final in two weeks time.

Our attack looked organised, we were solid in the midfield and defended well all over the field.

Well done boys, lets turn it on in the big one !

DC

U/13 Girls

The U/13 Girls played in their fist ever final against Caulfield last week after finishing on top of the ladder. What a fantastic achievement!! The girls have only been playing for two years and last season finished 7th on the ladder, their results are a result of their hard work and dedication to working on their skills.

We got off to a great start securing a 5-1 lead and shutting down their two scoring options, Sarah and Emma rejoined us and although Sarah was 100% both of the girls were outstanding.

Our nerves got to us (and a little over confidence i think) and we let Caulfield get back into the game levelling it at 5 all, we got a bit lazy in defence and didn’t stick to our game plan. We were getting tired too only having one sub, thank you to James Suffolk for skipping his swimming for the finals series to allow us this luxury!! Lochie got injured in goals but to his credit pushed on in one of the best goal keeping games he has played this season.

Our shooting let us down and the margin should have been a lot more than the 2 goal victory we ended up with. We were disallowed two goals again by stepping in the crease I don’t know how many time i can say it girls “We don’t need to be on top of the Goalie to shoot”

Very proud of you all for getting your heads back in the game and getting back on track to take the win when the pressure was on, it showed a lot of courage and character 🙂

ONE MORE WIN TO GO!!!

SHOOT LOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We can do it girls I believe in you all 🙂
