Barrow of Booze

As previously mentioned we are running the Barrow of Booze again this week, we kindly ask for all club members and senior players to donate a bottle or 6 pack of something to the cause. We also ask for all senior players to sell a raffle book of 10 tickets. Tickets are $5 each or 3 for $10. Please see Gaz with your donation and to pick up/drop off your tickets in due course. We thank you for helping out.

Call for HELP

We have a number of our loyal club members and servants overseas at the moment.
As you would be aware, the cub is volunteer based, driven and run. If you have a spare minute, moment or hour and feel like you can help around the club for the coming couple of months, even just for one Saturday, just see any committee member.

Coaches Corner

Coaches Corner is held every week at 545pm – it is a great opportunity for the club to unite as one big family. We go through all the games for the day (including our girls) from u11 up to State League. We would love to see you up at the rooms, grabbing a drink with your family and friends and to hear how your club mates went during the day.

Merchandise

If you have ordered merchandise, it is SOON here. Lisa Smith who has been driving this all season (and doing a great job) will be at the rooms distributing to those who made an order on 10 July between 5-8pm. So if you have ordered some of our merchandise don’t miss your chance to pick it up!!

Chocolate Fundraiser

If you have still got your box of chocolates at home, could you please bring your money and chocolates back to the club if you have forgotten. This, like the above, is one of our fundraisers for the year. However, should you be in the mood to sell another box please see Nina Reid who will be more than happy to give you an additional box to sell and collect the money.

Change Table

If someone has an old baby changing table they no longer use and feel like donating it to the club for use in the women’s bathroom until the end of the season please contact either Brad Currie or James Garrett.

Match Reports

State League

State League – 13-9 win against Chadstone
State League welcomed Jay back to the cage and Cam Mac to the X on the weekend.
Both of these guys were two of our best players on the day and it shows how deep our list is. Jay controlled the defence, while Cam did all the dirty work in the middle and ensured we had possession all day. While not perfect, the team did enough to win, however, needs to work on many aspects at training in the coming weeks to ensure we can work on making a strong finals push.
Best Players: Rowan, Cam Mac and Jay.

Division 1

The Div 1 team travelled out to MCC with about 12 potential candidates taking the field.
Due to the all Malvern ‘jetsetters’ going to the USA for the World Series in Denver, we had lost 2 of our ‘regulars’.
Jay (goals) and Cam Mc (centre) were both pushed up to SL to fill spots made vacant by Gal and Squeak.
We heard they had a few ‘canucks’ playing in their team…..well yes they did!
Sticky stepped in goals for the 1st time in a long time and hats off to him as he did an admiral job getting hammered by the opposition.
Cam Shepherd went down early in the ¼ much to his frustration and sat on the bench for the remainder of the game.
Jake (Creepy) was a welcome return and along with Shorty and Hamish, did well running all day.
JB, Cam Scott and ‘House’ all gave solid performances down in defence against a very nimble attack.
In our attack we had T-bird & Goon organizing plays and attracting the attention of MCC’s defenders.
Paddy Mac took all the centre drags and was given a ‘good work out’ (to quote his own words) and dominated towards the end of the game much to the frustration of their Canadian centreman.
Boppa pinch hit down in D to give us a long pole off the wing at centre breaks, then ran up to play attack once we had the ball.
Goon went down in the last which brought us back to 10 players.
**Cardio is the key when that situation presents itself! ; ) **
All in all, with a full squad the scorecard wont be the same and with the return of Jordy, Chappy and ‘Flo Joe’, the final score of 13-7 would be very different next meeting…
Thanks to ‘Westy’ our umpire extraordinaire for running the show as always..

Division 3

14-9 win over Melbourne Uni

Playing against Melb Uni is never easy as they play a different style of game.
The Boy’s stuck to the game plan and got home easily in the end after a bit of a scare.
A big thanks to Darcy, Toby and Garron for thier efforts during the game.

B Grade Women’s

8-3 win over Melbourne Uni.
With Romy gone for the season and Sarah and Katie away. It was time for everyone else to shine and that they did.
The women’s team is going along nicely with a 5 goal win over Melb Uni.
Playing out at Western Oval on a cold day the girls all worked hard.
Annemarie came back to help us out in defence and scored a goal.
Ivy scored two great team goals, one coming from a very well measured pass from Reece. Nina’s running back into defence was fantastic.
Leanne just keeps stepping up in goals, her outlet passes are amazing.
A good team win

Under 18’s

Just an update for this week coming.
We do Not have a game this coming Saturday 5th July.
Our next game is against Camberwell on July 12th at Camberwell.
We WILL still be Training this Thursday as usual at 5.30 Start.
Please let us know if you will Not be attending training.
We need to get some time at Training to get some plays set up.

Under 15’s

After a 1 goal loss to Caulfield last week, decided in the dying seconds of a close game,
the Malvern Under 15s took on Williamstown at home.
It was tight game with Williamstown leading at three quarter time 6 goals to 5. Williamstown scored 3 goals to our 1 in the final quarter seeing them run out winners 9 goals to 6. We worked hard in the packs and matched Willy in most areas of the game. There were times we needed to back ourselves and come straight through on the ground balls. Without Tom Bown, Lochy Bown and Mitch Baker the team put in a solid effort, all be it for a loss.
Aaron worked hard in the face off and ran midfield all day, bagging four goals for the match. Mitch Reid and Ryan also contributed goals.
Kaileb Damman and Kaleb Alaimo ran hard for the team until the final bell.
Our longpolers stepped up again. Great game from Sam, ably backed up by Harry and Tom Martin. These guys get better each week.
Thanks to our under 13s who play up an age group each week and are an integral part of the team. Well done Byron, Ryan, Garret and Ben Freeman. All of their progress this season has been fantastic.
Ben Chapman, with a bung ankle, pulled off some great saves in goals.
Welcome Jordan Keher and Kaleb Alaimo to the team, good to have these guys on board.
With the draw opened up to all teams in our division things have got more competitive.
It’s looking like the top 4 or five teams are pretty closely matched. We are lucky to have high quality coaching at Malvern so lets keep getting to training, listening and working hard. Keep working boys and we’ll get our opportunities at the pointy end of the season.
Thanks to Gazza, Squeaker and Bopper for umpiring this season.

Under 13’s

The team played at home against Altona today with a healthy bench thanks to a few U11 players in the 3 James’s…Arnold, Gibbs and Suffolk and Matthew Martin. James Suffolk has played for us on previous occasions and it was also good for the other 3 boys to get a taste of what’s install for them next year.
Altona got off with a big head start in us today 6-0 in the 1st quarter. Ryan was again dominating the fave off, but as a team we just couldn’t pull it together.
We seemed to be playing more on the ball than the player which enabled Altona to free themselves up for an easier contest on goals.
We improved and only kept them to 2 goals in the 2nd and 3 in the 3rd, however, with Garret scoring our only goal from a clean face off assist from Ryan in the 3rd quarter and a big improvement in the last qtr it wasn’t enough.
Enjoy the week off team!
Final score Altona won 15-1

Under 13 Girl’s

The girls copped the worst of the weekend weather today, going over the bridge to play Footscray.
A big thank you to Ryan Godber for stepping into Lochies shoes, you made some great saves today!!
We only had 8 to take the field today, with Meg away and Jenna sick, Footacray had 7 on their bench and where not keen to play 8 on 8 as they wanted all their players to have a run. Their coach did offer us 2 of their players but was later informed that if that was to happen it would be an automatic forfeit, well our girls would rather going out fighting!!
And fight they did, they were up for the challenge and proved their worth. 1st half saw us goal for goal the score 5 all.
Emma, Sarah and Victoria ran middy all day with a mix in D and attack between Brianna, Paige, Brooke and Jacinta.
In my eyes there was not one BOG but 8, Ryan’s goal keeping made Footscray work hard for every goal and with a ratio of 2 on 1 our girls managed to cover the girls really well in D and also managed to free themselves up in attack.
Jacinta played better in defense as Paige was an asset in attack with 4 goals, Sarah 2, Emma 1 and Jacinta 1.
Enjoy your holidays girls and Ryan, you more than deserve it after today!!
Lost 11-8
Match Report 22nd June
The U13 girls this week had another home game up against an impressive looking Camberwell team.
The girls trained hard on Thursday and bought their all to the game. Passing was much more accurate this week which make flows of passage more streamlined.
Lochie’s saves and clearing from goals were once again outstanding!! And James all over the field you wouldn’t know he’d just been swimming.
Today’s game would have to be Brianna’s best by far, her confidence growing each week, she scored the first goal of the game and another. She worked tirelessly all day! Brooke’s intercepts were once again great and her power runs through middy were impressive. Emma and Sarah are naturals, they read the play well and manage to get on their own giving an easy pass option.
Victoria’s confidence grows every week and didn’t shy away from a contest or hesitate taking a shot at goal. Paige again was on fire with her shooting and attacked the ball hard. Jenna’s height is a great asset for intercepts and she controls the ball around the goals waiting for the right time to take the shot or pass. The girls are also working better with Jacinta to keep on her right side in attack.
We kept Camberwell scoreless for the first 3 quarters the ball was shared around with a few multiple scorers and lots of assists, our little pocket rocket Mega scoring the last goal with only .04 seconds left on the clock saw us win 13-1.
With the Bowns’ away for a few weeks we have
Ryan stepping in as goalie and hopefully the return of Eden.
We’ll be working hard to keep Sarah’s undefeated record in tact!!
Enjoy your trip Bown’s!!!

Under 11 Black’s

Under 11 Black 7-14 loss against Willamstown
Our Under 11 Black team had a car trip to sunny, yet cold Williamstown.
Despite a great effort by all, the team lost to a more experienced Williamstown.
Next week we look forward to getting another win.
Big thank you to all parents and Will Leong for helping out in Joe’s absence.
