Alaimo Cup is on this Saturday!!
The annual rival game where we fight for the coveted “Alaimo Cup” will be hosted this year by Surrey.
Come along and cheer the boys on as they attempt to retain the cup for another year. Ron Alaimo was dearly loved by both clubs so there is a lot of pride at stake when this game is played. With new ‘dynamics’ on both teams, it will be the game you don’t want to miss!
Fees
Hi everyone just a reminder about paying your Registration fees.
Thanks to all of you that have paid your Registrations in full.
For those that have paid $100 towards them it would be appreciated if you can make another payment this week as we are coming up for Round 6.
If you need to set up a payment plan this is the last week that you can make that arrangement with me or Gus so make sure you make contact ASAP

RSA certificates
For those of you that have RSA certificates, please bring up a copy so that you are able to help in the service of alcohol at the club.
The more people registered makes it easier to share the load on the ‘regulars’ working behind the bar!
Pink Day!
‘Pink Day’ is on 23 May at MCC where we will have a selection of teams competing all day.
Come along and be a part of this awesome cause and get to see some quality games played by both the Men and the Women!
Yes you heard it correct, the girls have organised their game to be the ‘main drawcard’ (dare I say) on this epic day!
If you can’t get to the girl’s games on Sundays, then come and see our ladies and young girls coming through the ranks at Malvern.
Barrow of Booze
I’ve got my tickets, have you? This ‘EPPPPIC’ (4 P’s for Rooboy) event is the one that other clubs are talking about! This monster prize went to a guy from Altona last year who hung around for our Spit Roast Night and bought ‘2 Tickets!’. Can you believe that!
We watched him as he wheeled it to his car and locked it away. He did do the right thing and picked it up the next day, as he stayed at the club and had a great time.
We can’t let that happen again so get your tickets now! See Gaz for your book.

Williamstown – Lost 10 to 6
Another slow start had us 6 goals to 1 down and then add in game ending injuries to Cam Shepherd and Will James that reduced us to 12 fit players just before half time and not many teams come back from that position playing Williamstown at Williamstown.
We did have a fantastic defensive effort on the day of Steve Fisher, Lance Coleman, Craig Brown, Toby Exton and Dave Gal that only gave up two 6 on 6 goals all day, but the avalanche of fast breaks coming at them from poor turnovers in the attack half was extremely frustrating again against a top team for me and them.
Hats off as well to Patt McGrath-Campbell and Toby Exton who again were outstanding and won around 90% of face offs and contested ground balls around the face but simply that brings our attack turnovers into further sharp focus again.
Josh Naughton, Drew Bracken and Will James (before he got injured) all competed reasonably well and we did change the attack patterns probably 6 times on the day looking for structure that would work better but with only 6 fit attack players after half time it was groundhog day and the Footscray game all over again.
I have no idea who got the votes but Patty McGrath, Toby Exton, Dave Gal, Stephen Fisher, Lance Coleman, Craig Brown all tried their butts off and deserved votes.
Surrey Park away this week and another bad loss would see our season on the line already for 2015.

DIVISION 1
D1 v Footscray 12-4 win
The D1 season is starting to get back on track after a slow start with the second win of the season. The defence has been great for a few weeks now and with the attack working well we are starting to throw scores we can defend. Malvern welcomes back Rowan, a handy addition to the team. Jordan was again dominant driving hard and setting up a number of goals. Our riding was especially good and created a number of turn overs. Things are starting to come together for us.

UNDER 15
U15 v Moreland/Surrey 20-0 win
The U15 competition is very lop sided this season. This was 2nd v 3rd on the ladder. Moreland / Surrey had a number of new players in this team and tried very hard all game. Tom Martin played very well on the occasions the ball came into the defence. He has a great poke check and is becoming more confident every game. The ball movement on Attack is getting better every game and all short sticks scored. We have Eltham/Melbourne uni this week at Eltham.

DIVISION 3
Malvern 7 Eltham 8
Malvern played undefeated Eltham on Saturday with an understrength side at Caulfield and started the game well and scored the first goal late in the first quarter through Rob Lowe to lead before Eltham equalised to make it 1 all at quarter time.
The next quarter Eltham made the most of their fast breaks to score 4 goals to our 1 to make it 2-5 at halftime.
The 3rd quarter was even at 1 all to make it 3-6 at 3 quarter time.
The guys had a sniff and went on to throw 4 goals but Eltham threw 2 to win the game by 1.
Another good show by the defence to keep Eltham in single figures for the first time this year, lack of midfielders cost us at the end of the day.
Best Players: Darcy Campbell, Anthony Bosisto, Rob Lowe Tim Laidlaw.
Goals: Anthony Bosisto 3, Rob Lowe 1, Darcy Campbell 1, Brendan Farrell 1, Tim Laidlaw 1.
Under 17
Won 21- Melb Uni 2
Well this was always going to be a good game for the simple fact….we had 2 subs!
Luxury I tell you.
With ‘newbie’ Alfred who played his first game in a while and Lachie from U15’s willing to bolster numbers to help, we had the ability to put fresh guys on when others were tired. Finally some balance was welcomed.
The boys came out of the blocks as per usual against a relatively ‘green’ team and it was apparent that we could have rolled them into the ground. Nothing is gained by this so we worked on set ups in attack and defence. This will prove vital going against the teams further up the ladder.
Highlight of the day was Chappy attempting a ‘coast to coast’ from the goals. Everything was going well until he dropped the ball and kept running for 10 metres until he realised he had nothing in his stick!
Melb Uni did seize the opportunity and score their 2nd goal of the day.
Don’t worry the boys didn’t rib him……much! ; )
Thanks again to Danny and Tim for turning up to cheer on the boys.
With a week off with a bye we still need to focus on the job at hand.
Training tomorrow and all are invited to train with the seniors to get a ‘full squad’ session! Great for your own game.

Under 13
The u13 team went down to a strong Caulfield side. There were lots of comments from Caulfield about how much we have improved. Their cradling is improving well, and some of the boys are starting getting their head over the ground balls. We have a lot of work on running to open space and making controlled passes. We also need to practice shooting at the ground. I am very focused on the correct technique so that when they get to u15 they will tuck and run to open space instinctively. Because we don’t practice on a full field, the boys did not quite get how to run the ball out of defence, or go to the hole and play inside out.
Under 11 Black
Under 11 blacks played Eltham, running out with good numbers after what has thus far been a great start to the season. The team gelled really well from the outset of the game, with positions being shared, and everybody happy to contribute in and out of their usual spots. The game was tight from whistle to whistle, with a final score being a tie after a disallowed goal on the final bell. Will Rice and Liam Barnes showed excellent running in pursuit of the ball and opposition players? While Will Jackson and Ella Gibbs, both showed grit having great games sharing the job in the net. Special thanks to Loch Bown for stepping up and donning the black and white stripes for the morning, a great example from one of our future powerhouse players. Well done Malvern Black.

Our new sponsor in Hawthorn is “Beer DeLuxe”.
If you’re thinking of having a night out or an afternoon catch up, why not try this venue for your group.
We already have a group of guys going on a Friday night and also some ladies are getting together for a lunch.
If you’re interested, see Gaz and he can give you more details on who to contact there.

With Trivia Night coming up on the 30th May, we would like to encourage all Malvern members, family and friends to organise tables of about 8 approx.
Can each junior team try to encourage your parents to form a table as this is a more ‘casual way’ to interact and get to know more members of the club outside of our games…..and it’s a really good night with many prizes to be won!
