Telstra Kids Grant
We are delighted to announce our success in applying for a $1,200 grant from Telstra. Telstra Kids helps kids thrive in their connected world. Our Telstra Kids grant will be used to Replace current Club playing tops (jersey’s) for juniors. Current ones old, mix/ match. One club, one family, one uniform.
Huge thanks to Darian Panter from Telstra, who is the referrer, for applying for the funding for us. We are very excited to share in the million dollars the Telstra Foundation provides each year to help kids connect to a digital future.
Sportmanship on show…..
This was an email from a Caulfield parent sent to the President of our club.
Just thought it would be good to share a ‘positive’ on the way our members handle themselves…
Hi,
I am a first year Lacrosse player, at 56 years old maybe the oldest rookie around 🙂
I am on the committee at Caulfield, and have played all Div 3 games this season. My 14 year old son Jacob plays in the U15 team and the Div 3 team with me. He does all the face-offs.
Most of the games we have played this year have been really great and always tough. Unfortunately most of the games have been played against opponents who have been unsportsmanlike, dirty, foul mouthed and have no clue about what the “spirit of the games means”.
This leads me to the purpose of this email, we played Malvern Div 3 yesterday and were beaten 20-3, however the unbelievable sportsmanship and manner in which your players played the game was really almost a pleasure to be beaten 20-3 (not quite 🙂
Your face-off man was giving my 14 yr old advice during the game as well as taking the time to come over to him after the game, compliment him and give him advice.
Most of your players realised that we have quite a few youngsters in our team and often were giving advice.
I cant speak for all, but when a 14 year old comes to me and says “Dad these Malvern guys realise that we are young and want us to love the game and stay with the game”, then something is really right with your team.
So from me, thank you for the way all of your team played the game, whilst I know a few of the blokes from our sons playing together last year in our joint U13 championship winning team, I did not know the others. Their conduct made me send this email and also made me feel even better about Lacrosse in general.
Please convey my gratitude to them all, and a special mention to your face-off man, (whom I have since been told what a champ player he was and is), but for his amazing sportsmanship and the care he took to inspire my 14 year old kid who so thrilled that a champ in his position (face-off) took the time to help him.
Cheers,
Mike Spilkin
For those unaware of who Mike was talking about in the face off, he was referring to Cam McLaughlan.
This isn’t the first time other clubs have commented on his ethics on the ground and he is always willing to share tips and tricks to anyone interested.
As well as all the ‘older’ generation playing in Div 3 who part their knowledge to youngsters, this is a very ‘warming’ email to recieve
Malvern Lacrosse Club would like to say that we are very proud of all your efforts and this is the template of how we should all handle ourselves each week!
