Game Day Reports

State League

Malvern vs Williamstown.

Result – Loss 8-6

Past players day at the Town Hall and great to see a couple of hundred supporters and club legends show up to remind us of what a proud club we have been for more than a hundred years. Many of the players kicked on till well after 10pm with some super tall stories about how good we all thought we used to be (lol), great to be part of such a fantastic day at the club.

Our mission on the day as the current State League players was to play the number one ranked team in the competition and walk off the field win or lose with the pride and respect of our supporters.

A slow start by us gave them a 4 goal lead 4 mins in to the second quarter, however, for us to score 6 of the next 8 goals and draw level at 6 each with 5 minutes to go in the last is a great pointer to what this team is capable of.

The most contested ground balls by Malvern this year, the brilliance of David Gal in the net combined with a defence that was back to its miserly best fell short by the smallest margin against the best in the land.

I have never walked the 60 meters to the rooms prouder of the players than last Saturday, and you as players should all be proud as well.

The job ahead to make playoffs is now a tough one and as a team with a lot of young players we will have a few more hiccups along the way, but the future when we play at that level will take care of itself, the key words are, “that level”!!

Next week, “Camberwell”  do you remember them singing their team song after the game at Malvern last year,  because l do………………….

Division 2

Malvern vs Caulfield.

Result – Loss 11-16

Division 3

Malvern vs Surrey Park.

Result – Walkover

B Grade

Malvern vs MCC.

Result – Loss 8-2

The team ventured out to Footscray to play MCC for the second game in a row (obviously a “quirk” in the fixturing!).

Unfortunately Eleanor was unavailable for the game which certainly reduced our drive and support through the midfield.

We did however welcome back Sarah Bown from injury which did help offset the loss of Eleanor. Congratulations also to Sarah for being “officially” appointed Team Captain.

Once again the team showed tremendous endeavour and continued improvement. This was particularly evident in the number of ground balls we were able to pick up. We certainly dominated this part of the game and our run and carry has been really good over the past couple of weeks.

Leanne Currie volunteered (again!) for goals and did a great job making a number of good saves. Leanne was ably supported by Jess, Donna, Rochelle and Jaimie who all played roles in defence.

Romy ran hard through the midfield and scored 2 goals. Both Ang and Romy had success in the centre and Ang once again ran hard up and down the ground all day.

Our younger brigade of Maddi, Ally and Katie continue to improve and grow in confidence each week against older and bigger opponents. Their ability to run and carry the ball has been a great boost to the team.

Donna and Jess are also growing in confidence each week and have been getting some really good ground balls and running the ball under pressure.

Ang and Nina had a few shots and it won’t be long before we start to get a more even spread of goal scorer’s.

Once again the team had great support on the sidelines from a growing number of supporters offering encouragement and enthusiasm.

Under 18’s

Result – Walkover

Under 16’s

Malvern – Caulfield vs Williamstown.

Result – Loss 19-10

Under 14’s

Malvern vs Williamstown.

Result – Win 24-3

Good game this weekend . Everyone contributed to a solid win at the Town Hall.

Our On Field talk improved but we must strive to be really loud out there.

Special mention of Toby, who screamed I’VE GOT BALL and then burst through the pack to come out with the groundball of the week.

See how loud talk intimidates the opposition. This resulted in a Goal. Great work Toby. Keep it UP.(And everyone else).

Paz is working himself into Good form and Nick M and Luke are getting better each week.

Darcy, Nick C and Jorda got amongst it and all showed Fine Captaincy.

Great to have a couple of new Midgets on the team. Greenhorns Aaron Currie and Benny Chapman up from Under 12s and Wow, they were ready, with both the boys getting on the scoresheet.

Dylan is gaining some confidence and it won’t be very long until he is doing some damage.

Maddi is running herself into form and I am expecting a bag of goals from her in the very near future.

We had 10 goal scorers which is very good. This means we are sharing the ball around.

Elmo did some great work up and down the field and with his new boots he is also running himself into form.

Alex was on target this week picking up a couple of real nice goals. Good work Alex you were picking the spot this week.

One other special mention this week goes to Pauly L. Paul picked up 4 goals and at least 3 assists this week and the confidence is growing fast. Great work Pauly your talk and endeavour is starting to pay dividends.

All in all the scoreline looks good but the improvement is the pleasing factor.

I would also like to mention that Maddi and Aaron are the second generation of Crolls and Curries that I have coached .

I coached Dads Dale and Brad back in our heyday. I also look forward to Tom Bown coming up as I coached his dad Steve as well.

We should all be happy with the week gone by.

Malvern 24 Williamstown 3

Good Tough Malvern Lacrosse Each and Every Day.

Under 12 Red’s

Malvern Red vs Williamstown Cities.

Result – Win 10-0

Under 12 Black’s

Malvern Black vs Altona Purple.

Result – Win 11-2

We ventured out to Altona missing a few players from the week before.  Ben and Aaron making their debut in 14’s.

I am very proud of the way our players go about business.  Every one has a crack and links up well running down the field.

We have a mix of new and established players and the new players are learning very quickly from the older players.

This week goalies were Sam and Ally each making huge saves.

Goals : Sam – 2, Louis – 2, Tom Martin – 1, Lachlan – 1, Ashley – 1, George – 1, Tom Bown – 3
