Past Players Day this Saturday 4th June

State League will be playing Williamstown on Saturday 4th June and we have scheduled this as our past players day. As always it will be a great day and opportunity to catch up with your former teammates from years gone by.  There will be junior games starting at 9.30am, 11.00am and a Div 2 game at 1.00pm prior to State League at 2.30pm.  We would dearly love to see you and as many of our former players attend, so please make an effort to return for the day. Also if you can inform any other former players that you might keep in touch with as we may not have them on our database.

We will have the BBQ going and the fridge stocked.  To plan a successful day, if you could please notify the club with an email or call so we can arrange for catering on the day.

Game Day Reports

State League Report by – Glenn Meredith

Malvern vs Eltham.

Result – Loss 14-7

Probably our worst defensive effort of the season allowing Eltham to score 14 goals with most of them one on one from the crease gave new goalkeeper David Gal no chance even though he was clearly our best player on the day with 18 saves, the game would have been a disaster without him. Josh Naughton, AJ and Callum played their best games for the year and Squeak always gives it all in the middle which were positives but our overall shooting areas were again undoing the time and space we had created for ourselves in attack. A lot of players in the squad have an opinion during the game on why we  are struggling in the attack half but then go out and turn it over themselves which might explain my thinning grey hair, but they are passionate and competitive people and that will never be a negative with me, it just needs to be channelled into the game and attack on the ball, we as a group are so close to being a good outfit and that is what frustrates them “and me” more than anything!

Defensively we were loose for the first time in 2011 with ball watching and not recognising Eltham’s attack pattern hurting us badly on the day, this will be tightened up during the week.

Huge game against No 1 ranked Williamstown at the Town hall this week with a couple of hundred of Malvern’s past players and supporters going to make it a terrific day. It’s a real David and Goliath game but l know the 2011 Malvern team will give it everything we have and you will be proud of all our boys on the day.

Under 16’s

Malvern – Caulfield vs Chadstone.

Result – Win 24-9

The Under 16 team ventured to Camberwell to take on a full strength Camberwell / Chadstone combined team.

The team welcomed back Mikey P, Dylan and Corey which certainly added strength and versatility to the line up.

Mikey P and Corey (playing out of his normal defensive role) dominated the centre face offs and gave the attack first use of the ball on many occasions.

Joe (5 goals), Hugo and Hamish ran hard through the midfield and provided plenty of scoring options in attack.

Dylan (6 goals), Jordie and Nick Chapman controlled the ball on the forward line and the team scored some great “team” goals.

Paul Loulatzis (U’14) playing his first game with the Under 16’s chipped in with a great last quarter goal.

The D is really starting to play as a unit with Darian having another solid game in the cage well supported up by Tim, Bruno and Nick.

Great effort all round.

Under 14’s

Malvern vs MCC.

Result – Win 29-2

It was a good game on Saturday and we started well with a good warm up under our belt.

The opposition were mostly first year players but we still had to get the job done and get the 4 points.

After quarter time we swapped the D and A around a bit so everybody could stay warm and get a good run.

We had some very good passages of play during the day and scored most of our goals via assists

which was very pleasing.

Our on field TALK must get louder as there were a few occasions of confusion.

We played very hard but were still able to maintain a very Sportsman like attitude for the whole game.

Special thanks to Pauly and Darcy for playing a quarter for MCC to help out.

It was also very pleasing to see Rupert getting into some great form playing a fair bit on the backline and ending up with 7 goals.

It was also a great leadership game from Co Captain Nick Chappy.

Final score – Malvern 29 v MCC 2

Good Tough Malvern Lacrosse Each and every Day

Under 12 Red’s

Malvern Red vs Eltham Russell.

Result – Win 10-0

Under 12 Black’s

Malvern Black vs Eltham Durham.

Result – Win 22-9

Malvern Black hosted Eltham Durham in the first round in the Sharks Division.  A new problem for Malvern lacrosse this year is having good player numbers.

After splitting the players into two teams we had a mix of experienced and new players Noah and Sam. With a bench of 5 getting all the players a good run was going to be difficult.  Rotation through the midfield was excellent by all players.

The number one request during the prematch chat was to have a smile on your face at the end of the game and everyone did.

Great transition through the midfield and excellent team work saw most players score including first gamer Sam.

Goal scorers Tom Bown 3, Lachlan 2, Ben 1, Aaron 5, Ally 3, Sam 1, Louis 3, Ashley 1, George 3.

Great first game
