Game Day Report!
State League
V Surrey Park – Win 19 to 9
Another terrific win this time against a top 2 contender and to throw 19 goals to follow up the 16 against Camberwell the week before is more great work from the attack group. We had no Dave Gal, Nick Chapman or Rohan Anglicas and Surrey had 3 of their own out but none of that mattered as our ball movement in attack was again extremely impressive, these players now see what we have been building to all year and when we spin the ball and get our off ball movement and backside fill with inside motion correct we can score on any defence.
Jay Baskarin was great in the net and the poles were reasonably solid all day but a couple still need to work on their 45* angles to the ball and player, but hard to complain really when we hold a team under 10.
Paddy Mac did what Paddy does best, Harry Cotter and Robby Maddux are genuine stars and have fitted in like they’ve always been here, Bill Exton is becoming the player at X we all new he could be and Trav Croll filled a very important role on the crease.
These last 2 games could be the most team orientated attack 8 the club has had in the last decade and if they continue to be this selfless we will play a major role in the 2015 finals.
Special Mention to Adam Barnes who helped out on the day and the positive vibes and passion for our club were infectious and much appreciated.
After a couple of days to digest it l will make a comment on the fight that broke out in the 3rd quarter and firstly its true, Josh confirmed to me he wasn’t completely innocent in the niggle that led to it but to see his helmet ripped off his head and have 3 to 7 king hit punches to his face all while lying on the ground almost defenceless is really disappointing not only for the players involved but for our sport in general.
The response from the Malvern playing group to support our club Captain at that point was fantastic.
Side note : I spoke to all 3 Referees after the game and they all confirmed Josh’s version of events, and the claims made by a few of the Surrey park players regarding a spitting incident against one of our players is completely false.
Eltham next week at Eltham and the second game of a tough run, we have moved to equal second on the ladder and this week is critical for us to continue to improve on our great form with consistency, ball spin and selflessness are now our biggest challenge ahead.
