Once again it is subs time!
The committee decided that $100 was due by Round 3 and the balance by Round 8……This week is Round 8
People were offered a payment plan but most are not honouring that agreement.
Please advise that any player with unpaid fees by this week will NOT be able to be selected.
Unfortunately some have slipped through the cracks and have not paid ANYTHING.
Once again a payment plan is available but any player ‘not honoring’ will not be able to play. Coaches be aware that we MUST enforce this so I will also send you all a separate list of the players who will be ineligible for selection this week in the relevant teams unless they make a move.
If we can’t field a team in any of the grades because of unpaid subs….“Bad Luck”
Lacrosse Victoria will NOT give us any extensions on payment times.
Cheers Gus.
Malvern Mentors
For those unaware, a brilliant idea was put into place recently where young girls and boys at the club can get some valued information.
A ‘Malvern Mentoring Program’ has been formed for kids that are looking into a line of work and can ask questions from one of our adult members that is in that chosen line of work.
A link has been established on the website for all job criteria that may be of some help.
To find the program on the web site, go into “Contacts” then select the “Malvern Mentoring Program”
Also, if you have an occupation or are interested in a particular line of work that is not shown, contact Allan Datson 0409 165 739 and he will be able to help you out more.

ALRA – Senior Men Mouth Guard Reminder
At the commencement of each game the ALRA referee will ask each coach “Are all your team members properly equipped?”, under the current rules it is the coaches responsibility to ensure his team is properly equipped, it is the referees responsibility to ensure compliance. At this point in the season it should be understood that to be properly equipped to play includes a mouth guard, even if not specifically asked. During the game the referee would be looking to ensure that both teams play within the rules, without focussing on any one in particular. There are many rules which will not be called, this does not mean that the referee is not checking compliance. If a player has a mouth guard on his person but not is not wearing it properly, they will be instructed to properly wear their mouth guard. If a player does not have a mouth guard on their person, they will be required to leave the field. - John Sedgeway – Chief State Referee ALRA (Victoria)

Game Day Reports!
B Grade
B Grade played on Saturday this week against MCC for their family day. All the girls were excited to play on a Saturday with a bigger crowd in attendance, we donned the Pink and White striped socks to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer, a charity that has touched many of us and is very close to the MCC girls hearts, Fran from MCC gave us an emotional thank you at the beginning of the game and told us her story about her own battle with breast cancer, We would like to thank Fran and MCC for inviting us to join in and be part of this day and this great fundraiser.
We stared off slowly and without our coach who was fulfilling his State League commitments on the ground next to us. MCC came out firing and scored three quick goals and won every ball out of the centre putting us on the back foot, we slowly pegged them back to go into the half time break one goal up. MCC received three yellow cards in the game putting us one player up for 6 minutes of game time, this is quite unprecedented for our games and it showed when we not only didn’t score when we were a player up but in fact let MCC score on one of them, we as a team need to be more aware of doubling the ball in defence and utilising the extra player in attack when this occurs in future.
We rallied at half time and knew we had to start winning the ball out of the centre, as a team we discussed our plan and decided to stack one side of the circle where the ball was going every draw, this made a huge difference and Sarah D and Nina along with Romy started to come up with the contested balls and driving into our attack.
Great to have Tara back this week her experience on the field is invaluable, Emma and Kate ran hard through the midfield all game and scored some handy goals for us when we needed them. Ivy and Tarryn were solid in defence as always and you wouldn’t know Tarryn was carrying a nasty hamstring injury. Bruiser made a lot of her famous clears that gave us some fast break situations and had MCC on the back foot, this is such an advantage to our team and we are learning to use it well.
Lauren and I sat down in attack for the majority of the game and were able to see first hand how solid our defence is when we block and turn and double instead of swiping at sticks.
Great Game Girls Final score was 13 – 5 tough game next week with second placed Eltham who are coming off a loss and will be keen to bounce back. Lets come out firing from the first whistle this week instead of the half time one!
Thanks again to Chris Ive for umpiring a tough game, looking great in his pink and white socks also. We really appreciate the time you give umpiring us Chris.
Under 17’s
The under 17’s were out and part of MCC’s family day and scheduled to play the combined team of Camberwell/Chadstone with 1 sub.
Both teams knew each other well, so friendly ‘catch ups’ before the game was expected and it was set to be a good contest!
The game started well and our boys were playing good lacrosse and making most of opportunities in recognising ‘mismatches’ which saw us 3-1 up at the end of the 1/4.
2/4 was more of the same as the team used the ball well. Chappy was having a ‘cracker’ in goals and Max was great off the wings helping Thomas contest the ball against their centreman, making him change up his style of play.
They must have been getting worried, as the ‘attention’ we were receiving from their sticks was a concerning factor. So much so that at 6 -1 up at half time I went and spoke to the head umpire.
He acknowledge that our team had ‘controlled checks’ but the other team were not and that he’d watch it closely in the 2nd half……..No he didn’t.
It was like watching ‘Jack O’Toole’ at the showgrounds and our boys copped it bad but pushed through the barrage of wayward checks.
Fintan ran well under an injury cloud and Jake & Seb ran the ball around in offence. Our defence with Harry, Alix and Sam are starting to click together and make their opponents ‘doubtful’ on whether they should dodge or not. Alfred is learning how to move the ball on and did some great running all day.
8 – 2 up at 3/4 time and the guys were starting to feel the affects of only having one sub and the ‘tenderising’ from their opposition.
Aaron had a good game scoring a few goals and helped Thomas out when he needed a break in the middle.
The end result was a 9 – 5 win and once again I was extremely proud of these young men who stuck together even when the ref’s whistles were obviously broken.
Watch out for when Tim and Danny are back! Thanks for supporting us each week!

U/15 Girls
Footscray decided not to show up for our scheduled match so we roped in Harry from Caulfield and Lochie to stand in goals while the girls split up and had a fun scratch match! The girls had a great time and enjoyed the extra training session.
Under 13 Boys
Wow, that was fun and exciting. We played Surrey Park at MMC for their family day. James Arnold won most of the Centers for us.
While James Suffolk ran up and down the field, shoving his butt between the ball and the opposition. Last week we practiced defence: go to the hole, turn and look out, find a player an knock the ball down. This week we focused on making controlled passes, and Ben did particularly well. The three mates, we together again: will Jackson stepped up from u11 to play defense, he cleared the ball to Carl Davies and we we tied going into the last few minutes… But after a couple good passes, Fearless Freddy ran the ball straight down the middle for the winning goal.
U/13 Girls
U/13 Girls played Camberwell this week, the Camberwell team only had 7 girls until the last few minutes before the start of play and it looked like we all got out of bed for nothing. One more player arrived and we agreed to give Camberwell 3 of our players each quarter so we could play ten on ten, this suited us as we usually have a cast of hundreds on the bench and this game us one sub and the girls a great opportunity to have some more continuous play. The camberwell girls got off to a great start with the players were handed over scoring 3 quick goals for them! We edged them back with some great team goals and after a little chat at quarter time from the coach to explain to the girls that they should shoot goals for our team and just be more of a feeding or relief player for the opposition we got back into the game. It was a close game with some great transitional play. Brianna and Zoe were fantastic all over the ground making excellent space, it is difficult at times with a combined team for the girls to look at all players and use all the opportunities that arise. The last quarter we put Brooke and Paige in defence which made a huge difference, slowing the Camberwell girls down and stopping the fast breaks. Meg played well all over the ground and finished in attack with some great assists. We finished up two goals in front, there will be lots of work on picking up ground balls at training this week!! Well done girls.
Under 11
As a squadron of red and black vehicles descended into enemy territory, the anticipation billowing out from their back seats was so thick that the parents of Malvern Lacrosse could hardly see through their windscreens. The under eleven Reds and Blacks were deep in thought, steeling themselves for their first encounter with MCC for 2015.
As the sun rose and cleared up the windshields, an all-star lineup combining both under eleven teams took the field. After a brief altercation with a lost whistle, the home referee sounded his call to arms on a party popper and the game was underway.
Riley Suffolk, Will Rice and Ben Godber made short work of the short-statured MCC midfield, but as they charged into their offensive half, the shadow of the tallest eleven-year-old ever to play lacrosse blocked out the sun above them. Not to be denied, the three Spartans fought in the shade and found Jake Sedey to help them in offence. The goals began to flow.
As the game progressed, it became clear that the opposition’s goalkeeper was preoccupied with the clouds above the field, and Liam Barnes took advantage of his fascination to score the first of what would become a seven-goal haul for the match. Back in the Malvern net, Allee “David” Jackson did an admirable job facing the cannon fire from MCC’s very own Goliath, and hard work from Danielle Mitchell and Fred Jackson on the ground balls allowed the ball to return to the offensive half, where Bella Korolik put a few shots of her own past MCC’s young meteorologist.
When the party popper sounded for the final time, the weary troops had a healthy lead, and seven of the nine players had scored goals. The extra battle-hardening will serve them well in the first lightning carnival of the season this week, where each team will play four abridged games over the course of what is sure to be a scintillating morning of cut-throat under eleven lacrosse. The Blacks and the Reds will be ready.
