Hi All,
I had reported in the last issue that MLC has been competing in the Bendigo Bank Community Bowls Challenge.
In Round 2 Dave Chapman and Lisa Smith (Parents of Nic and Ben Chapman), Norm Coleman (Past President, Past Coach and Past Player) and Gordon “Little Al” Elder (Past Player and Referee Extraordinaire) made up the team for this round.
Finishing on top of the leader board after Round 1 meant that this 4 from MLC would be up against some Very Good opposition and Gordy was the “Skip”.
Game 1 and the team got off to a bit of a nervy start but settled into stride and got out to a 3-1 lead at the half time break. Normy dropped one on the Jack and Dave put one down to cover Norm’s shot and Lisa chipped in with a Blinder to leave Skipper Gordon with a nice alley to close the end.
Gordy did just that and the MLC gang ended the 3rd with a 6-5 lead.
Into the last and the pressure was well and truly on. Team MLC remained consistent but under a bit of pressure as the other gang rolled their last dice. Unfortunately the opposition rolled a “Double Six” on the last end and MLC got pipped 6-8.
Game 2 was to be very serious business. The president was there and urged the team to “Clear their minds and Concentrate”. Once again the opposition was Very Good and a power struggle began from the start. Lisa led off with an amazing curve ball followed by another from Normy. Skip Gordy Bowled the “Shot of the Night” to keep MLC in the hunt and be 3 all at the long break. Into the 3rd and Dave was fired up sending down a “Toucher” with Gordy reaching into his bag of tricks to keep the MLC team in touch. Trailing 6-4 at the start of the last Normy decided to play the Joker for double points. The MLC team was on fire in the last and looked like they were going to gain 4 shots and win the game.
You would not believe what happened as the Umpire was measuring the bowls, this Damn Magpie thought the Jack was an “Egg” and swooped down knocking the Jack away.
Unfortunately it cost Team MLC the Double points and they went down 5-6 in a thriller.
If I ever see that Magpie again I will “Wring That Birdie’s Neck”.
Thanks to Dave ,Lisa, Gordon and Norm for representing our club with Pride.
Player Registrations.
Sporting Pulse is now open for player and all MLC officials for 2015.
It is up to each individual to register themselves, Not the club !!
It is a two minute exercise and very simple to do as most people’s information will already be there from last season. Can all coaches start to tell their respective team members to “Get it Done”. Registrations will be heavily scrutinised by LV this season and NO registration NO play regardless of circumstances.
When you get to the Fee payment part just click continue.
Fees are to be payed direct to MLC and will be finalised in the next few days.
If anyone is unsure how to register ask Sarah Bown at practice.
Sponsorship.
I Urge ALL members to ask around for sponsorship in any form.
Even if you go to a restaurant or bar for dinner just ask the question about donating some product to MLC. Some of our members have been doing that and we are starting to get some donations.
If anyone needs tyres for their car don’t forget to call Roddy Finnigan 0488 108 943 as for every 4 Tyres purchased MLC will receive $50.
Con Loulatzis has been kind enough to Donate 2 Reserved Tickets in the MCC members to Raffle for the ANZAC day clash between Collingwood and Essendon at the MCG.
Raffle tickets will be available at practice or by contacting myself or Gaz to buy these raffle tickets.
Con has asked that the proceeds to go towards our Junior program. Thank you Loulatzis Family.
Training.
Practice is well underway at the Town Hall on Monday nights from 6.00 – 8.00pm.
Hopefully we will get approval from the Stonington Council this week to go to Mondays and Wednesdays. I will keep everyone posted on this matter.
