Scouts Clinic / Christchurch update

Jordy, Ally and Jeff Campbell went to the scout hall on Tuesday night and we had a clinic with around 14 scouts. There ages varied from around 10 – 13. Some of the kids had previously done lacrosse clinics at their schools. Although limited with the size of the scout hall all the kids got involved and by the end of the evening had started to grasp the main basics of the game, catching, throwing, scooping the ball. Overall a busy couple of hours that saw the kids have a go at lacrosse and they enjoyed the experience. At the end of the session all kids were given a flyer relating to the upcoming have a go day at Malvern Lacrosse  on August 20th.

Game Day Reports

State League Report

Malvern vs Eltham.

Result – Won 9-2

3 wins on the trot, and our destiny is ours for the taking.

To hold Eltham’s much vaunted attack to 2 goals for the day was an outstanding defensive effort led by Dave Gal with 25 saves from shots on goal and a ridicules save percentage of something like .925

Long poles Greg Higgins, Dale Croll, Danny Mac, Harry Butler, and Adam Barnes were ruthless with every slide and body check have now become with short stick defender Craig Brown a very tight defensive unit for the Malvern Lacrosse Club, we still have a bit of work to do in defensive and need to bring that level every week from here, but it was our clearly our best work in D for the season………..

Special mention to Steve (Squeeka) Bown for dominating the face off and his unselfish work doesn’t go unnoticed by those around the team, hard running middies Josh Naughton, James Garret, Tanner Smith and Luca Lettieri are all in great form across the middle and Anthony Jenkinson continues to develop into a top flight player, he and Callum Gerrard both benefit enormously by playing attack with Colin Molloy who attracts the best pole each week and frees them up to dodge, cut and create.

Our teams best wishes go out Nick Leguen, (Knee reconstruction) and Robby Chamberlain (broken Femur) for speedy recoveries and look forward to them being back around the club asap, our thoughts are with you both.

That is 3 of 8 down and the job isn’t even half done yet, Camberwell have been practising their club song ready for Malvern’s home game next week, we need to refocus and regroup because l never want to hear “that” song again……..

Division 2

Malvern vs Footscray.

Result – Won 21-0

Under 16’s

Malvern vs Eltham-Surrey.

Result – Loss 10-17

A tough encounter was expected in this game with Eltham-Surrey at the Town Hall.

We got off to a really good start leading early in the 1st 1/4 only to have the scores tied at 4 all at the break.

Loosing Dylan with his shoulder left a huge hole in our goal throwing.

The 2nd 1/4 saw Eltham extend their lead. Darcy finished the 1st half with 3 goals giving us some fire power on the attack side.

The long break had the visitors leading by 3 goals and we had a job in front of us.

The 3rd and 4th 1/4 saw Eltham winning all the face off and were penetrating our defence which could not withstand the constant barrage.

Hamish kept working hard both ends,

Joey finished with 3-1 the only assist for the day and Darcy 3 goals. Nick was productive feeding and running midfield to tally up 2 goals. Single goals to Hamish and Sammy.

This weeks game at home against unbeaten Willy.

If Eltham-Surrey defeat MCC that would keep us in the 4th spot matching us up against Eltham-Surrey with a full players list for the first time this year.

Under 14’s

Malvern Red vs Williamstown.

Result – Won 23-5

Well that is the home and away season for us as we have a bye next week.

We finish top of the ladder and go to the 2nd Semi final. It will most likely be against Altona.

The winner of this goes straight into the Grand Final so let’s make sure it is us.

We travelled to Willy for our last game and we put up a strong show with a couple of players

missing.

The first quarter was very dominating and as usual it was time to practice our plays and mix up positions  a bit.

The teamwork was good and the Willy guys got a few penalties as they tried to upset our Running  Game.

To our credit we took a few hard checks but did not let them suck us in. The umpires took care of us.

The ball was moving very fast which saves our legs. The defence was very solid once again with some great fast breaks out of D

resulting in fast break goals. Great work defence.

Attack scored easily when we Pass and Cut.

Final Score Malvern 25 Willy 5.

Saturday NO GAME or PRACTICE but I expect everyone to be at the clinic at Malvern Town Hall by 11.30 am and to have a Friend with them.

Good Tough Malvern Lacrosse each and Every Day.

Under 12 Red’s

Malvern Red vs Eltham Russell.

Result – Loss 1-13

The Malvern Reds had a disappointing performance on the weekend, losing 1-13.

It was a frustrating loss as many of the players just weren’t paying attention to the coaches and instead were talking amongst themselves and not paying attention while sitting on the bench.

However, in saying that Matthew Crossman was fantastic as goalie in the first half making at least 8-10 saves and was sensational. If it weren’t for him in the first half the game wouldn’t have been close. Great game Matthew.

Sankalp took over in the 2nd half and did an equally good job making a couple of good clears.

With the rotation policy in full force all the players were rotated around the field giving them the opportunity to play in all the positions.

The crowd did erupt in the 2nd quarter when we scored our goal, a nice goal (and first) goal to Ben Freeman with the assist coming from Jenna.

One highlight of the day was how everyone did not hesitate to pass the ball to open player as soon as they saw them open which is a great thing to see as a team. Our effort on the groundballs was also second to none and hopefully this will enable us to get a win next weekend.

Just a reminder to all that we have the Malvern Have-a-go clinic this Saturday at 12pm, there is a free sausage and can of soft drink for all the kids who attend and have a go. So hopefully we will see you all there and to watch the State League game afterwards.

Under 12 Black’s

Malvern Black vs Eltham Durham.

Result – Won 22-11
