Match Reports
State League
State League played Surrey Park away.
After a good start being 4-1 up early Goals were hard to score.
The game progressed to become a battle of defences.
Fairly even at the half time break Surrey scored three quick ones in the Third to leaving us trailing at the last break.
The last quarter got pretty fiery and left Derek Zook with a nice gash on his face. (He is OK) Surrey got 4 ahead and we were able to peg a couple back but we eventually went down 11-9

Division 3
Malvern Vs MCC.11-10
With MCC needing a win to make the finals. What a team they came with. It was one of the highest skilled and fastest Div 3 game in years.
They got away to a 3 goal lead in the first ten minutes of the game, after a time out we settled down and got on with it.
Steve and Thom Bown working together in the centre and a solid defence we managed to keep them down to 10.
With 6 to Spiedel 3 to R Finnigan and Joey 2. We worked together to run the clock down with Malvern getting up by the smallest margin.
B Grade Women’s
Missing report fron last week
Malvern V Eltham 12-4
We played a more complete game sharing the ball around and getting in to the correct postions.
This year Nina has moved into defence where she is going great guns holding out the attacks.
Leanne in goals is having a standout year with the lowest amount of goals scored against her that any other goalie in the Competition.
With plenty of goal scorers with Faye Getting her first goal in the southern hemisphere while Katie B toped it off with 5.
We now just have to sharpen our game plan a little and we are looking good for the up and coming finals.
With Malvern sitting 3rd on the ladder we need to keep our focus and finish off the last two games to secure a spot in the finals.
Under 18’s
Under 18s came up against 2nd placed Moreland / Eltham combined at the Town Hall.
Playing at home the boys were a bit sluggish to start and trailed by 3 early in the first.
They knuckled down after that and started to slowly claw the deficit back hitting the front just before half time. After the brake the boys came out Hunting for 4 points and the team work came back allowing us to surge ahead by 6 at the ¾ time break.
The last quarter was fairly even but our boys stuck to the discipline and team workload.
Final Score Malvern 16 v More/Eltham 10.
Next week we travel to Willy armed with teamwork and discipline, looking to knock the top
Side and grab another 4 points as we strive for a finals berth.
Under 15’s
Under 15s Match Report 9-8-14
After a convincing win against Altona at Altona last week, the Under 15s took on Footscray away. In another strong performance Malvern ran out victors 16 goals to 4.
The Under 13s had the rare luxury of a bye this week in their age division and all played well. Garrett scored 2 goals and fought hard for the ball in some heavy traffic. Ben Freeman played all over the ground and finished with an assist. Lochy made good position in attack, gave an assist and was unlucky not to score. Ryan backed up in the draw and boxed above his weight in mid as usual.
Tom Bown and Aaron blitzed them in the face off and both played great games, attacking and defending from the midfield. Kaileb just keeps getting better, running all day and contesting every ball that came his way. Mitch Reid played a smart game in attack.
Tom Bown finished with 5 Goals 2 assists, Aaron 5 and 3, Kaileb 2, Mitch Reid 2 and Garrat 2.
Tom Martin, Harry and Sam worked hard to keep out the attack. Good body boys, and good decisions when we did check. All three picked off intercepts, won the ground balls and cleared well. Sam copped a ball from a huge crank at close range to the head late in the second quarter. Sam being Sam returned to the field in the third and played out the match.
Ben Chapman played well in goals. Cleared well with support from both short sticks and our long poles. Made some nice saves again.
We had a few goals that came through fast transition from the defence, to the mids, then on to attack in good position. It looked slick.
We missed Mitch Baker, out sick. Look forward to seeing him back next week.
9/9/2014
The Malvern Under 15s played Altona at Altona this week. After defeating them in a close match at home earlier this season, the boys followed up with a convincing 20 goals to 7 victory. In a physical game, which saw Altona give away 6 penalties to our 1, we made the most of the man ups for a great win. Ryan, Lochy and Ben Freeman all took big hits. They showed how it’s done, playing on and all having great matches in their second games for the day. Well done to everyone, we rode the bumps and punished them on the scoreboard. It was a good team effort.
Great to see Mitch Baker back.
Mitch Reid dodged well and finished with a haul of 7 goals. Aaron scored 6, Tom Bown 3, Ben Chapman 2 and Mitch Baker 2. Tom Bown and Aaron also finished with 4 assists each.
Tom Bown dominated the face off, backed up by Aaron and Ryan. Mitch Baker and our other mids gave them plenty of support.
Kaileb made some great saves in goals in the first half, also walking and clearing the ball well. He went on to provide his usual end to end run in the second half on the mid. After scoring a couple of goals in attack Ben Chapman played another solid half in the cage.
Tom Martin, Sam and Harry kept out some pretty strenuous attack, going the body and not giving away cheap fouls. It went a long way to keeping the opposition to 7 goals and securing the win.
Lets keep the talk and effort up next week against Footscray.
Well done boys !
