Spit Roast Needs You!!”
Calling all salad makers.. Do you have a hidden skill?
Are you’re salads the talk of the town? If so, we need you’re help!
Along with the mouth watering goodness of the meat being served, we need some ‘extra’s’ on the side.
So as we don’t resort to meat overload it is always nice to have a salad to accompany the meal and this will also give vegetarians a choice.
If you’re willing & able we would be most appreciative if you could donate a salad for the night.
Contact Gus or post on the facebook page to let us know of your salad of choice that you can bring along.
Thanks in advance
Last Weekend’s Games
State League Vs Williamstown
Win 13 to 12 in Overtime!
Great win down at the Fearon reserve and in fact our first win against the very respected old enemy since 2002.
We have now won one and lost one against all other finals bound sides and sets up a terrific finals series that we can play a major role in if we bring the aggression, toughness and never say die attitude we had Saturday, l believe the Malvern of the last 3 or 4 years would have reacted differently at being 3 nil down 6 minutes into the first quarter especially down at the Fearon but to see the 2015 model grit its teeth and say “not today” was bloody fantastic. Dave Gal started slowly but 3 votes was well deserved, Josh Naughton lead the attack really well and l was happy to see 4 late first quarter goals to Travis Croll to start our comeback, Toby Exton is simply one of the toughest D middies and ground ballers Malvern has ever had and l will comment again at how he is dismissed by the umpires when it comes to votes week in week out and simply defies belief.
Patty Mac and Tim Graham have now formed a terrific face off combination in the middle and the future years in the face at Malvern will be just fine with those 2 working hard.
Our D poles of Fish, Brown, Barnes and Roo despite still missing Shepherd and D Campbell were terrific in only conceding 4 goals in 6 on 6 play, but to give up 8 goals in transition will be the focus of the week as we cannot turn the ball over against such quality sides like Surrey Park, Footscray and Williamstown in the finals and not pay the price.
Hopefully we regain Nic Chapman, Cam Shepherd and Darcy Campbell from injury this week and will make selection extremely difficult as it should be this time of year, we will be for the first time this year at full strength but Camberwell will be a another big test this week as they are playing some great lacrosse at the moment.
We are now firmly cemented in the top 4 but must keep pushing forward as more challengers lay ahead for this group.
Rub
Div 1
Loss 11-6
Div 1 travelled out to Williamstown as did most teams Saturday.
The early start at 1pm wasn’t too disruptive as most players were already there or within cooee. Coming out of the blocks we were like a wet cracker!
This could be that we possibly expected an easier game, replicating our first meeting with them where we won comfortably.
After 1/2 time then we were competitive but playing catch up is always a tough gig.
We got within 3 but they scored twice more to take the win.
Long story short is that we need people at training to work on team structure and plays to cater for certain situations.
Finals are this weekend and the reality is….we lose and we’re out!
Doesn’t matter if we’ve beaten all the teams above us if we fall at the final hurdle.
On a positive… We do have a very good team and when we’re on, we do things really well.
Lets all make an effort tonight and on Saturday to give it a real go!

U17
Win 11 – 5
It was good to finally go up against a team in the top 4.
No holding back, this is what you’d love every week to test yourself.
The boys did a great job and it was a physical game from the start!
A new player for Willy was throwing his weight around, which was met with equal ‘enthusiasm’ from Malvern.
No team broke away as goals were answered at each end.
Having depth is our biggest asset which allowed us to chip away a lead using multiple players. It was great lacrosse from both teams as we head towards finals.
We’ll work on the basics as they were probably the little things that stopped us from being REALLY good. Shot selection, passing and catching were the things that tripped us up. They can be fixed and the guys know that, so that’s good…
Saturday is an early start (9.30am) at Melb Uni due to finals starting for Divisions 1,2 & 3.
So….get to bed early! #notextinginbed

U13
U13’s V Eltham
Going into this game, we always knew it was going to be tough.
The final score of 1-21 was certainly not reflective of the overall game.
There were times when the boys held some strong defence and held them out, also other times where there was a lot of transition up and down the field before one team was able to get a shot away.
Eltham are a more skilled and polished team – with some set plays and the ability to have a number of scoring options. 7 of their players made it onto the score board.
Tom Schofield (in only his 3rd game) stood in goals for the whole game and made several great saves, as well as taking a few hits.
The boys ran and tried hard for the whole game but were just not able to string their passes or possession together for consistent periods to be able to get more shots off at goal.
Cheers,
Tarryn
U13’s Last Report!
(due to a mix up in emails, the previous report was a from the week before!…)
Enjoy! : )
Last game of the season Malvern/ MCC V Surrey Park Red. With 13 teams in the U13’s competition it is the first time we have been able to play an opposition twice. Last time we came away with a 5-4 win so it was going to be interesting to see how much the two teams had improved.
Surrey Park only had 9 players – so we agreed to play 8 on 8 – leaving us with 3 subs.
The game started with James S and James A winning the first couple of face offs – and Justin scoring the first two quick goals. We were off to a flyer.
Tom had volunteered to step into goals again – a position where he holds his head high and seems to relish in the challenge of stopping the ball. He never takes a step back. At one stage he stopped a barrage of shots from Surrey Park, before Malvern /MCC we able to take possession and send the ball up the other end of the field.
Max made several great ground ball pickups then runs through the midfield to set up shot in the first half.
Gibbo and Ted stood strong in defence for the whole game, making a number of intercepts and sending us into attack.
Final score 11-8 (not including Max’s goal just at the end of the game).
It was very pleasing to see 6 different players score goals this week – Brandon,
James A, James S, Justin, Freddie and Joe.
A win and also a great way for the team to finish off their first season in U13’s.
