Pre-Season Training up and Running
Training is in full swing now at the Town Hall on Monday nights.
Good to see healthy numbers of Juniors and Seniors going through their paces.
It is now time for EVERYONE to turn up as our fitness levels throughout every team will be a Major factor in our success as a Club. Monday nights at Town Hall from 6.00 – 8.00pm.
Tom Keller has been taking sessions sharing his knowledge and know how amongst the group. Great to have Tom here for a few weeks with MLC being able to reap the benefits of his experience. The players have been enjoying the new drills he has introduced.
With first games on April 11, it is paramount everyone gets to training.
Drew Bracken
As I have mentioned in previous letters Drew Bracken is here from Baltimore to work and play a season with us in 2015.
I would ask ALL members to ask around as we need to find some employment for Drew.
We will also have another 1 or 2 American lads coming to play towards the end of May early June.
It is our responsibility as a CLUB to help find accommodation and work for these boys as well.
If anyone can help please contact me as a matter of urgency.
School Clinics – CALL FOR HELP
The Club has recently been able to secure Clinics at schools in the local area as we strive to continually increase our Junior numbers.
Once again I stress the importance of PLAYERS getting involved and helping out.
We are looking for PLAYERS who can get a couple of hours off work during the week to help out.
If every Senior player could devote 2 Hrs as a once off during the season we would be cruising.
These clinics start next week and I am expecting to have some players contact me in regard to this ASAP.
Refereeing Course – CALL FOR HELP
LV will in the very near future be running their annual Umpiring accreditation course.
We will also need some of our Juniors to attend this course and keep in mind that if we get people to become accredited you can also earn some good pocket money as a Lacrosse umpire.
We want as many people to be accredited so that from time to time our regular Club umpires can have a week or two off.
Please contact me if you can do this course.
Fundraiser – Chocolate Drive
Our annual Chocolate drive will be happening soon and as we all recall last year, every Junior got a $20 cash back on their subs at the end of the season.
Nina Reid will once again be heading up this fundraiser so let’s make sure we all support Nina and sell as many boxes as we can. The more we sell, the more cash back the kids will get.
As previously mentioned, the more money we raise for the club, the more flexibility we have In regard to fees and the financial security of the CLUB.
Fundraiser – BBQs
We have been able to secure 3 Bunnings and Masters BBQ days which are a great fundraiser for the Club.
We need players to put their hand up to help out for a couple of hours at these events.
Yes PLAYERS as the amount of money we can raise at these events will determine the costs that we charge for Subs. Let’s not leave this work to the same people every year.
Those who can give us a couple of hours on a Sunday during the year should contact me as a matter of Urgency.
Dates are Sunday May 17th , Sunday June 28th and Sunday July 5th.
If everyone could donate 1-2 hours of their time the club would be substantially more financially secure.
Help Around the Club
Our dedicated committee had a meeting on Tuesday of this week.
As I have mentioned before, as a first year President it is great to have such a dedicated hard working group standing behind me. The work from these people is keeping MLC a step ahead of all the other gangs.
From an admin point of view we are in a really good place right now but what we really need is for ALL players to do just a little bit more than just play and we will really get this Jet flying.
This includes helping set up and pack up of the ground, working the BBQ, working the Bar and all the other small tasks around the Club.
That’s about it for this week so let’s ALL offer some help and strive for perfection.
Once again I urge ALL players to do a bit of extra running in their own time.
Catch us if you can !!
Cheers Gus.
