Past Players Day
A message from Darryl…
Hi all I will be in Melbourne from the 16 the June till the 22nd June, Big night on the 18th at Malvern lacrosse club,
Passing on the custodianship of my Grandfathers memorabilia from around 1912, to the mid 1960’s,
The best place for all of his photo’s, letters. achievements, from player , Captain, Club President, Life Member , President of the Victorian Lacrosse association, President of the Australian Lacrosse Association, Led a Lacrosse Team to the Usa Canada, UK, back in 1962.
I looked at al of this and said What do I do with it, after I drop of the perch, also here nobody ever gets to see it.
I rang Gary Campbell and from there its all going to their hall of fame , so all members can the important drivers behind Lacrosse in the world. Especially in Victoria, and Malvern.
I met and spent time with some but most of all were, Frank & Kath Lansbury, and Their daughter I think Margaret. Whom I haven’t seen for decades.
I feel so honoured to have the opportunity to be at the club meet and greet so many people who have played Lacrosse, and supported the club in many ways.
Some of what I am passing on has never seen the light of day, for a century.
Cheers Everybody, see you on the 16th June and at the past players night on the 18th June, probably cooking snags at the ground.
Cheers
Daryl.
Games 21st May
State League
Round 6 we hosted Moreland which has come into State league this year after winning the Div 1 title in 2015.
Some may have been thinking easy game but there is NO such thing anymore.
Starting of OK we saw the opposition get a couple early with us getting a couple back.
We went neck and neck with them for most of the first half and we showed some very good patches of play. Nice to see our Fast Break area working well.
After the half time break I thought we were a little flat and most were waiting to see who was going to get the job done. AT one stage of the Third we were down 3 but rallied late in the third to tie it up at the last break 10 ALL.
We came out in the last with a very aggressive attitude toward ground balls and the cage with the boys in the middle dominating.
We got six in the last with good momentum and even better to see we kept pressure on until the end scoring our last goal just before the bell.
4 points we chased, 4 points we got . Very Pleasing last quarter and wondering what is ahead with this team if we put 4 hard quarters in.
16-11 Win.
Gus.
Under 17s
Malvern 28 Defeated Surrey/Eltham 5
Looking to build on last weeks win against 2nd place Williamstown we hit our straps right from the start and built a good lead. Tim, Sam and Tom won all the face-offs again so we had full control out of the middle. Of our 28 goals 14 were assisted and that is what building teamwork is all about on offence .Our defence had some work to do keeping our opponents to only 2 goals at 3/4 time. Good quick ball movement with correct spacing and timing produced good results.
Tim Graham 6-4, Aaron Currie 5-5, Mitch Baker 5-2, Tom Bown 3-2, Isaac Taylor 4-0, Mitch Reid 3-0, Sam Bontjes 2-1.
We are away next week to 3rd place Altona.

Under 11’s
A beautiful Saturday morning greeted U11’s for the first home game of season 2016.
With a big crowd, freshly cooking bacon and egg rolls and a real confidence we took on Camberwell.
The game started off with Camberwell sneaking the first goal, and another minute passed by before we scored our first goal.
That was the only time it was even for the game.
With the reliable Liam and Will dominating the ground balls, passes, ball carrying, shooting and intercepts, Camberwell was always going to find it tough.
Amelie, Riley, Seth and Matt Arnold continue to play significant roles, and there work rate and determination is there for all to see.
The Chaddy component playing with us Alistair and Jasper have settled in well, and what would a game be like without the ever reliable Toby Bown pumping his legs like pistons after a fantastic ground ball.
A 13-5 victory before Caulfield next week.
With thanks,
Adam Barnes
Division 1
A trek out to Melbourne Uni greeted Div 1 this week.
Sitting at 1-3, a victory was needed.
So far a year of missing players, bad luck, and lack of continuity in our offense summed up the year to date.
Heading into the game we had some changes with Bosi back in goals, Jarred and Will in defense.
We welcomed Scott Wilson into the fold after a few years out of the game ( former club Surrey Park), and Jack Prince, a 22 year old British back packer who will play the season if numbers allow.
With Rupert, AJ and Fintan out, we still felt we had the firepower to shoot a winning score.
Started slow, built up and were a goal up at three quarter time after a tight tussle the whole game is a simple way of summing up.
The last quarter remained a tight one, and with 20 seconds to go Melbourne Uni scored the winner.
9-10 the final score.
Special mention to Aaron Currie, Sammy Anglicas and Cam Mac for their individual contribution.
Next week home v Chadstone.
With thanks,
Adam Barnes
Ps – thanks Westy ( kind of 🙂 FOUL )

U11
A fresh and sunny morning greeted the U11’s at Caulfield. With a team full of confidence it’s great heading into a game believing we can support our experienced kids with a great lacrosse experience as well as our younger developing kids. From the opening quarter our ground balls, positioning, run, passing and shooting was first class. This is continues to be an extension of our training. Good training = good games To see our kids skills, determination, competitiveness and friendships is pleasing. No one gets singled out this week, it was a 17-3 victory and a pleasing result leading into next weeks Lightning Carnival at Altona. Let’s win it.
With thanks,
Adam Barnes
U17
Under 17s Malvern 17 Altona 5 A wet day down at Altona with no Sammie on the left attack in steps Mitchy Reid who did a real solid job picking up 1 goal 2 with some nice feeds to the cutters. Aaron moved around to finish with 6g 2. Tommy picked up 4g basically off cutting (what a gold mine). Tim was unbeatable again in the middle and finish with 4g2. Isac found the net twice with Smith baker improving from the back of the net fed off 4 assists. Our decision making along with our stick work still needs to improve. The defence was again tested with a handful of penalties our man down work was still pretty good. Over all still a lot of room for improvement. Next week we are away at Eric Raven against Camberwell. Div 1
Sitting at 1-4 and just out of the top half of the ladder, another opportunity presented itself. The last couple of games were a goal win and a goal loss and we knew we had our work cut out against Chadstone at home. We welcomed Eddy and Rowan into the fold as State League had a bye, and with clear instruction, enthusiasm and intent believed we could get some continuity into not only our game, however our offensive game. The game was a tight tussle from the very start, and goals a premium, as a group we played or roles, made some mistakes, however kept being persistent. Bosi played an absolute blinder in the cage, Cam Mac continued to use his youth and gut run, and Shermo has seen the reward of his pre season and training with multiple tough ground balls. With Mezz running hard, Sammy grabbing a couple of goals, and defense working hard we were all but a chance. At the final siren a 5-6 loss and another heart break. No reward for the effort being put in. We regroup and go again. Eltham at home.
With thanks,
Adam Barnes
Women B Grade
B grade travelled to Altona on Sunday to play top of the ladder Newport. The girls came out fighting hard from the first whistle! They had 5 on the bench which allowed for our middies to run hard and fight for all of the contested ground balls. Winning the ball out of center was key, Brooke, Sarah, Emma, Romy and Nina killed it on the centers draws. A stand out performance from Bruiser in goals along with some solid defense held Newport to 2 goals. In the offensive end we had multiple scorers; Sarah Davie 2, Tara 2, Kate 1, Romy 3, Sarah B 3 and Emma 3. The next game is against Melbourne Uni at western oval
U15 Girls
The u15 girls played Eltham on Sunday, winning 14-5. All girls played really well. Chantelle played the whole game in goals making some spectacular saves, we had multiple goals scores including Meg, Sarah, Cassidy and Paige. The girls fought really hard for possession of the ball and had some really great transition. Winning the ball out of the center made a huge difference in the game, Brooke, Shaylee, Emma and Sarah winning majority of the draw controls. The girls have been working a lot of draws, shooting and ground balls which showed on the game.Hi everyone, just some more news to keep you informed..

Reunited again
Great to see Travis Dawson finally reunited with his FOX Jacket which he had left behind at the club over 2 years ago!! Thanks to the guy who looked after it and even when ‘the guy’ previously asked “Is this yours?” (he replied no) was then asked again Thursday night “Is this your jacket?” and Travis then said “Yes, I wondered where that went, it matches my shoes!”
Both the shoes and the jacket are getting together for a catch up soon..
