Brad & Dave’s Fundraiser

Australia Indoor Lacrosse team

Well if the 15th August wasn’t jam pack with entertainment and things to do…Brad & Dave are having their $1000 Reverse Draw.

For those that don’t know, Brad & Dave have been selected to represent Australia at the Indoor World Championships in Onodaga, Syracuse, USA.

The government doesn’t provide funding towards Lacrosse and there is minimal sponsorship.

All the financial burdens fall onto the players themselves which can amount to thousands of dollars.

To help ease the cost, we will be holding a $1000 REVERSE DRAW (based on 100 tickets) to help raise money.

TICKETS IN THE RAFFLE ARE $20 EACH.

Tickets will be on hand this weekend and up to the night.

So if you want to help out after you’ve had a great feed at “Spit Roast”, make sure you buy a ticket to help.

Thanks in advance..

Womens B Grade

B grade went out to chilly Eltham on Sunday.  Unfortunately we had our second loss for the season.  Apart from the loss, we had another bigger loss on the day with Sarah out for the remainder of the season with a broken ankle.  This will be a huge hole in our team – get better soon Sarah!

U/15 Girls

The U/15 girls had a tough match against an experienced Newport team, the girls all did fantastically with Emma and Sarah successfully locking off their dominant players, Brooke had anther great game and Paige made awesome position!

Last game for the girls this week for what has been a great season for the combined team, the girls have learnt a lot from coach and Australian player Olga and are all looking forward to

Fire and Ice try outs over the next two weeks!, Good luck girls

U15

U15 v Footscray 12-9

The u15 team showed great character on Saturday.

Scores were level at 3/4 time at 7 all. The game had swayed back and forth and their goalie was keeping them in the game with some great saves. In the last quarter our big kids really stepped up to take control of the game. Finn started dominating the face off. Mitch worked hard off the wing and shot well and loc ran as a LSM off the wing picking up plenty of ground balls and creating opportunities on attack. Garrett played his best game with a couple of great goals. Ben got a couple of thought ground balls and Tom was solid I defence all game. Often shutting down their best players. 1 more game and then finals.

U13’s

U13’s V Eltham

Going into this game, we always knew it was going to be tough.

The final score of 1-21 was certainly not reflective of the overall game.

There were times when the boys held some strong defence and held them out, also other times where there was a lot of transition up and down the field before one team was able to get a shot away.

Eltham are a more skilled and polished team – with some set plays and the ability to have a number of scoring options. 7 of their players made it onto the score board.

Tom Schofield (in only his 3rd game) stood in goals for the whole game and made several great saves, as well as taking a few hits.

The boys ran and tried hard for the whole game but were just not able to string their passes or possession together for consistent periods to be able to get more shots off at goal. Cheers,

Tarryn

Editor: well that was easier than last weeks! ; )

U11 Reds.

U11 Reds.    Editor: get a comfy chair.. : )

The Under Eleven Reds travelled out to Eltham on Saturday morning, while their coaches did their best to find their way there sometime before early afternoon. They may well have played a sensational first quarter, gallantly directed by the Mansfield parents. Ben Godber could have made the Eltham goalie tremble in his boots with his offensive spark, Amelie Mansfield might have defended with inspirational courage, and Fred probably picked up a groundball or two, but sadly, your faithful correspondent can’t confirm or deny anything that happened before quarter time.

We can report, however, that the second quarter started with a bang, and quite a classy one at that. Julien Mansfield was posted in the offensive half, and when some hard running from Riley Suffolk and Fred Jackson in midfield brought the ball down to his end, he skipped away from his defender for what looked like a garden-variety finish. When he got to the crease, though, he reached into his bag of tricks and pulled out a perfectly executed behind-the-back shot, leaving the crowd roaring support and the Eltham keeper scratching his head.

Julien’s class act inspired the rest of the Reds to new heights, and Loup, our newest recruit, joined in the act with as much excitement as anyone. He and Riley led the charge through the midfield, with some clinical precision in offence from Ben to reward their hard work, and at three-quarter time the scores were level. Amelie Mansfield wasn’t about to let her brother overshadow her, though, and when the fourth began she made a sensational block of an Eltham player’s shot, which proved to make the difference at full time as the Reds emerged victorious by one goal. The players have all made a dramatic improvement in the second half of the season, and we look forward to proving it in Camberwell at next week’s Lightning Carnival.

The U11 Blacks

The U11 Blacks headed out to sunny Eltham to take on a team that we knew would be competitive.

With the ever reliable Will Rice sick, we took to the field with six (6) more than capable players.

The game got off to a good start, with both teams trying to find their feet.

Alex Jackson did what she enjoys the most, as our ever reliably technical sound goal keeper. Alex stands tall and doesn’t take a backward step saving many a shot.

With Matthew Arnold and Liam Barnes scoring each we were down by a goal at quarter time. Will Jackson and Jake Sedy scored in the second and third quarters and with Liam Barnes scoring again in the last we went down 5-10.

A special mention to our first year player Jake Sedy who earnt a promotion to the blacks. Jake rewarded this selection with a best on ground performance and a goal. Jake’s ground balls and carry were fantastic, and shows if you listen and practice you improve – Simple.

The U11’s finish off the season with a lightning carnival this Saturday at Camberwell.

With thanks
