Match Reports

State League

Malvern took on Surrey Park in the semi final played out at Altona last Saturday with Surrey Park out scoring Malvern by 3. 8-5

Division 3

Div 3 played a very hard semi final against Footscray to set up a preliminary final against

We start off pretty well matching Altona in the first quarter and were still in the game at half time. But I guess with only 11 players on a hard ground it was going to take it toll

and that it did.

Altona ran out winners of the game. I will say that I feel our team played exceptionally well to get where they did by making it to the Prelim. I was proud of all the guys in the team and would like to Thank everyone who was involved, especially  The Bown’s for allowing Thom to play in the finals with us, The Reid’s as well, I know Mitch wanted to play but we just couldn’t get him there and Anne Lowe for letting Rob and Harry and making sure they got to our games.   Well done guys.

B Grade Women’s

Preliminary Final against Williamstown

Malvern 6 Williamstown 12

After such a great game against Footscray the week before it looked good for the B grade team bur unfortunately we couldn’t match the run and gun of Willy who played a very good game against us. Everyone for Malvern tried their best and ran the game out until the very end.

Under 18’s

With the home and away season behind us the  Under 18s finished 3rd on the ladder and travelled to Altona for a do or die 1st Semi Final against Moreland / Eltham combined.

Starting off with a Bang the boys had the first 2 on the board early in the first.

Knowing that we were in for a long haul against a quality opposition we had a couple of  Opportunities to go 4 up but luck was not to be on our side. Moreland/Eltham fought back and tied it up at the break. The game was played at a fast pace and it seesawed between the 2 up until ¾ time when we trailed by 4. The last quarter started and we knew it was Now or never.

To their credit the boys found a bit extra and started to Roll on home and managed to be just 1 behind with just a few minutes to go in the game. Very late we had our chance to Tie it up with a shot hitting the Pipe.

The ball rebounded back out down the field and the opposition scored putting them 2 up. Not panicking the boys continued to come home hard but as it got close to the end a lucky break to Moreland allowed them to score again and beat us by 3. “Season Over” This group of young Lax players had Prided themselves all year on being a TEAM and the loss of a couple guys the week prior and the Thursday night before the game did not phase the Mental toughness of the group.

Yes it was a very trying year for all involved and there was NOT 1 game during the year when we had our FULL squad on the park. We absolutely destroyed the teams above us during the home and away and the Game awareness and structures demonstrated by this group was Amazing to see.

As I said to the boys there are 2 things you must have to win a Flag.

Firstly you must have the BEST TEAM, and Secondly you must have LUCK.

We had the BEST TEAM.

I would like to thank all the boys for their efforts throughout the year and every one of them Improved out of sight.

I would also like to thank all of the parents for their undivided support and a Special mention to Joe and Julie for scoring.

To my old mate Curly “Good Job” and to the Lovely Rita many thanks.

To Glenn Meredith we thank you for your time and mentoring.

Thanks to Rocket for Umpiring most games and to Westy for filling in.

I would also like to say a Very Special thank you to our Manager Tony (Google) Huxham.

I can only find one word to describe Tony and that is “GOLD”

As Co Coach, yes Hurting but also feeling very good about what we achieved as a TEAM under the circumstances.

Under 15’s

Match report for the under 15’s from 30th August

The Malvern Under 15s  played Williamstown in the first round of the finals.

With Willie finishing first and Malvern second on the ladder after the home and away season it was on the line, the winner going straight through to the Grand Final with a weeks rest.

Malvern put in a fantastic four quarter effort this week in a tight game. With the boys down by 1 goal at three quarter time, a 5 goal to 1 final quarter sealed the win for Malvern 10 goals to 7.

Malvern will go on to play the winner of Altona and Williamston in the Grand Final in two weeks time.

Our attack looked organised, we were solid in the midfield and defended well all over the field.

Well done boys, lets turn it on in the big one !
