Another Home game combined with a large supporter group on hand to cheer and encourage our Team was a great sight.
Unfortunately after the heroics of the previous week, we were unable to play with the same intensity (particularly on the ground balls) and our shooting let us down resulting to an 11 to 3 loss to Newport.
Once again the scoreboard did not reflect how competitive the game was, Newport had a very strong and experience team and they were able to convert their scoring opportunities better than us. Their ability to pass and move the ball quickly gave our team an indication of the skill levels we need to strive for.
Leanne had a great game in goals making many good saves and she was well supported in defence by Jaimie, Rochelle, Jess and Donna.
Our midfield was strengthened with the return of Romy and Phoebe but unfortunately Tara was unavailable. Ang and Phoebe worked hard in the centre but came up against a very experienced opponent and we struggled to get first use of the ball.
Eleanor ran hard all game and scored a couple of good goals but seemed to progressively lose colour as the game went on (perhaps the result of a big night out!)
Maddy, Ally and Katie rotated through the forward line and along with Nina created plenty of scoring opportunities but unfortunately our accuracy was not as good as it could have been.
Sarah played her best game for the year chasing hard up and down the ground as well as providing plenty and carry into attack.
This week we play our final game and we are looking to finish the season off with a win. We have had a good week on the track and as always the attitude, endeavour, commitment and enthusiasm has been great.
Under 16’s
Malvern vs MCC.
Result – Won 18-8
We started Alex Kofler-Rogers in goals this week. After a very tight 1st quarter we settled down to throw 7 goals in the 2nd .
Sammy was winning the face-offs through the muddy centre pitch.
Dylan started slowly but found the target to generate 4 goals and some highly required forward production. Joey produced a great all-round performance to add 2 goals for the quarter.
Malvern lead at 1/2 time 8 to 3 looking to shut the game out with a 10 goal lead.
The final quarter was pretty even and this win now places us into 4th place.
Our defence at last could be heard talking and calling the ball and did work like we might be able to tighten the amount of goals that have been scored on us.
With Alex in goals doing a very solid job, Corey, Tim and Coco are showing some signs of being a tougher line to crack now.
Our defence will be the guiding factor on how far we go from here.
Dylan 7-4, Joe 4-3, Sammy 3-1, Gary 2-0, Hamish 1g, Jordy 1g and Tim 1 assist.
Most pleasing again was the number of assists – 50%, good team work.
We have a bye this week but we are training Sat @ 10.30AM @ Town hall and hopefully Shorty returns this weekend to boost our numbers.
Under 14’s
Malvern vs Camberwell.
Result – Won 18-4
Great game on Saturday kids.
Good strong defence led up by Alex, Nick M, Luke and Elliot.
Paz worked in there and on the Mid for a Solid game.
Defence was really good and they only scored 4 Goals.
The Sniper play worked very well. (we will continue to practice it so be ready)
Do you all now see the benefits of listening at practice?
Nick C, Jordy and Rupert opened it up in the Middle with some real good bumping ( Hey Jorda!)and solid ground balls. They actually Blitzed. Don’t get Cocky boys just practice a bit harder.
Dillon got dangerous a few times and came real close to bagging one.
The Greenhorns Az and Tom did not muck around getting plenty of the ball and both scoring.
Tommy got his first Left hand goal in U14s
Great return after 4 weeks off Darcy, very strong.
Maddi fired up early in the game and a nice goal. Good positioning and use of space. Keep cutting Maddi.
Pauly did some great work on attack and through the middy and set quite a few up. Nice vision Paul as the game went on. Keep it up.
We were in a good position at ¾ time but just to make sure Guy got there and went straight into the middle
to collect a goal and an assist in 3 minutes. I’m sure the opposition was wondering where the heck he came from.
Great to have you back Guy.
All in all a Good Solid win. Malvern 18 Camberwell 4
We need to practice a bit harder each week.
Parents
Please help out with the Clinic and be aware that Practice will be going longer from now on until after Finals.
Saturday we play MCC at the Albert Ground (Mcc)
Good Tough Malvern Lacrosse Each and Every Day.
Under 12 Reds
Malvern vs Caulfield Cobras.
Result – Loss 10-1
Under 12 Blacks
Malvern vs Altona Purple.
Result – Draw 11-11
Malvern Black hosted Altona this weekend. Everyone played well and had a great time.
It is great to see some of the things practiced in training work so well during a game. Great team work resulted in a number of goals.
New recruit Luca jumped in goals for the second half and had a shut out in the third quarter.
In a hard fought game, we were up early in the last but 3 late goals to Altona saw the game end in a draw.
Great work everyone. Keep the smiles coming
