Past Players Day Saturday 4th June

State League will be playing Williamstown on Saturday 4th June and we have scheduled this as our past players day. As always it will be a great day and opportunity to catch up with your former teammates from years gone by.  There will be junior games starting at 9.30am, 11.00am and a Div 2 game at 1.00pm prior to State League at 2.30pm.  We would dearly love to see you and as many of our former players attend, so please make an effort to return for the day. Also if you can inform any other former players that you might keep in touch with as we may not have them on our database.

We will have the BBQ going and the fridge stocked.  To plan a successful day, if you could please notify the club with an email or call so we can arrange for catering on the day.

Game Day Reports

State League Report by – Glenn Meredith

Malvern Vs Chadstone.

Result – Win 13 – 5

Came out in the first half with clear attack patterns that we had worked on during the week and was great to see reward for effort with the guys working harder off the ball and l thought the 5-0 score line flattered Chadstone and we should have been further ahead.

Contested ground balls were up and we were scoring some terrific transition goals.

We changed the attack pattern after half time and worked on a couple of other set ups we’ve got and even though they were not as successful as the first half we have learned more about them in a game situations and will make some minor adjustments to them this week however, we still seem to stagnate a little off the ball after half time in games, clearly we need to get fresh legs out there more often and this is a work in progress. 41 shots for 13 is better.

Our defence with the great work of Murray Keen was solid again, we still get a little out of shape and press the ball in wrong areas too far from home or help but another miserly effort from the D was great, clearing was improved but still needs attention.

Overall it was good to get the points and really positive that we kept our heads and focus on the job even when Chadstone appeared to lose theirs. We welcomed to State League Nick Le Guen, it was great to see him in Malvern colours and hopefully he has a terrific time with us in the years ahead.

Huge thanks to Muzza for jumping into the net for us and doing such a great job, you can sell the pad on eBay now Muz.

David Gal arrives from the U.S. on Friday and we look forward to welcoming him to our club and giving us stability in the cage for the rest of the year.

Huge game against Eltham next week!

Bring it on !!!

Division 2

Malvern Vs Williamstown.

Result – Won 19 – 15

Division 3

Malvern Vs Altona.

Result – Win Walkover

B Grade

Malvern Vs MCC.

Result – Loss 7 – 8

The team travelled to Eltham resplendent in their new uniforms and warm up tops.

The new uniforms looked great and inspired the team to once again put in a great performance and show significant improvement from the previous week.

The team welcomed back Sarah Bown from injury and after a good warm up the team took on MCC and had their best game for the year (something you are reading every week because the team is showing huge improvement week by week!).

Romy (4 goals) and Eleanor (2 goals) tried hard in the centre and around the ground all day and kept the team in the game.

Sarah who volunteered for goals, did a great job making some very good saves (the sun didn’t help in the second half!) and forced MCC into many pressured shots. “Bruiser” (Leanne), Jess and Nina shared the defensive duties and played really well forcing MCC into many errors resulting in turn overs.

Our “running machine”, Angela continuously ran hard up and down the ground, took (and won) centres and was so close to scoring her first goal only to be foiled by the MCC goalkeeper.

Donna, Katie, Ally, Maddy, Jess and Nina also worked hard through the midfield and picked up plenty of ground balls and ran the ball into attack as well as playing solid defence when the opposition had the ball.

Maddy, Katie and Ally played their best games for the year and are growing in confidence every week and the improvement they have shown picking up ground balls and running the ball up and down the ground has been significant.

Jaimie played a combination of defence and attack and scored a good goal and her experience is providing some additional stability to the team.

The final part of the game was hectic as the scores were close and both teams had plenty of scoring opportunities, Malvern had the last shot with under 20 seconds remaining on the clock but the shot went wide.

The final score was a loss 8 to 7.

Once again it was great to see the improvement in the players in all aspects of the game (particularly ground balls) and to see the number of supporters make their way out to Eltham and again provide significant support to the team.

I’m sure the team’s first “official” win is not far away!

Under 18’s

Malvern Vs Eltham.

Result – Loss 5 – 7

The U-18’s lost a close game going down 7-5 to Eltham. The game went back and forth with both teams leading at various times. Malvern-Caulfield was able to hold their own for most of the game despite having only 1 substitute on the bench. The defence played very well and Shakti Singh played a strong game for his first as goalie.

Under 16’s

Malvern-Caulfield Vs Footscray.

Result – Loss 5 – 9

We had a couple of late outs (Dillan, Corey and Mikey P) and ended up with just 10 Players including the 3 Under 14 Boys.

We travelled to Footscray who seemed to be a good side but given the fact we had no subs it was going to be tough.

Our boys battled it out all day and started to get a bit tired in the last quarter but still managed to outscore Footscray in the last term.

Darcy and Joe ran hard through the midfield all game and Nick Chapman scored two goals with a couple of nice assists.

The D experimented with a zone defence and were able to shut down Footscray’s scoring opportunities and were well led by Darian Jones in goal and Tim Samoilov.

Great effort all round .

We Lost 9-5 but I am sure with a Full team we will beat them easily next round.

Under 12 Red’s

Malvern Vs MCC.

Malvern Reds Vs Camberwell Sting.       Result – Won 5 – 3

Malvern Reds Vs Knox.                        Result –Won 7 – 5

Malvern fronted up to a quick Camberwell side, we got the jump on them early but they caught up. Until we threw the last two goals to get up.  Malvern 5 Camberwell 3

In the second game Malvern played Knox. These guys (and girls) were a bigger team who didn’t mind the rough stuff, but that didn’t stop our kids from getting in there and doing what was needed to get the score on the board. Malvern 7 Knox 5

Thanks to the goalies doing a great job in the cage, the midfielders running all day, the defence getting the ball back up our end and the attackers finishing the job, the reds had two good wins.

Under 12 Black’s

Malvern Blacks Vs Knox.                        Result –Won 6 – 4
