Division 1 Report by – Brendon Farrell

Malvern Vs Eltham.

Result – Loss 21 – 5

Division One travelled out to Eltham for a hard game in ankle deep mud.
We got off to a slow start losing the first quarter 6-0 but fought back in the second.

In the end we could keep Elthams well training side from scoring finished the game with 5 goals to Elthams 21

Goal Scorers Adrian Slattery 2, Tim Laidlaw 1, Mez Clough 1 and Pat McGrath-Campbell 1

Malvern Vs Eltham.

Result – Loss 14 – 6

The U18s went out to a very soggy Eltham and had a terrible start, eventually trailing 9-0 before improving and finishing with a 14-6 loss.  The ground was in terrible condition with a massive mud patch down one end of the ground halting play on a regular basis whilst the rest of the ground was so spongy it made ground balls very difficult.
Anthony Jenkinson finished with 3 goals and 2 assists despite having spells in defence, Sam Johnson scored 2 goals and Callum Gerrard scored 1 goal.
With finals just one week away and Eltham being a likely first round opponent, the whole team needs to lift its game to avoid a first round knock out.
This week a match against Chadstone away will hopefully get us back into winning form.

Malvern Vs Chadstone.

Result – Won 15 – 3

With the 2nd Semi Final next week it was very important to have a near perfect performance against a Chadstone side that does pressure you all day. Well we did not start that way with our first 8 shots hitting the goalie or him saving them, very poor shooting all round.
We finally got going and at half time we lead 9-2. The talk from defence helped generate turn overs opening up for our transition game to score quickly.
In the final quarter we finished off with some good ball movement giving us a total of 15 goals of which 11 were assisted.
Once again Toby and Luca put in great tireless performances in the middle and controlled the face offs.
James moved around the ground generating plenty one on one opportunities and the first game back for Dillan was very pleasing (his best is still to come!). Shorty and Sammy were busy carrying the ball from end to end.
Goals scorers were Toby 5-3, Dillian 4-3, Luca 2-1, Sammy 1-2, Shorty 1-1, James 1-1 and Zac 1 goal.
It has been a very productive year with 296 goals scored for and only 79 scored against.

The second semi this week is at 12 noon at Altona, our under 14s are at the same time. I hope all parents and supporters will be there to cheer on both Malvern teams.

Malvern Vs Camberwell-Surrey Park.

Result – Loss 11 – 13

The team was defeated by Cam Park 13 -11. We had a bit of a “Nothing goes right day”.
Not to worry as it is a Positive kick in the Bum, to wake us up for the Second Semi next week.
Good job boys as we kept going and did not throw the towel in.
We had some great team play at times but at other times we did not move the ball quick enough.
We dropped a lot of passes that we do not normally drop.
This was very telling as most of those passes were bread and butter and could have resulted in Goals.
Also lacking was our LOUD talk. ( Come on Boys talking is EASY). So back to the Drawing Board!.
We need a real good hard practice session and we will be ready to give it to Footscray.
I have a couple of things for practice this week so when you all get there put you LISTENING Ears ON !!
It is so important that the Whole team listens at practice so when I send you out to Play on Sat everyone knows EXACTLY what is going on.

This Week’s Riser is a Guy Exton. Guy played 3 quarters in Goals and was Fantastic.
Well Done Guy.
All in all we have had a great Home and Away season losing only 3 Games by small margins.
We Finished Second on the Ladder and  play Footscray this week. The Winner goes into the GF.

This week’s Schedule.

Sat we are playing Footscray at ALTONA.
We have not been given a Time as yet but I will let you know as soon as I do.
Parents Please Advise Availability ASAP.

Under 12’s Black Report by – Steve Bown

Malvern Vs Willimastown Cities.

Result – Loss 11 – 5

Thanks to Mike Naughton for organising this match to be played against Willy at Caulfield.  With the Town Hall ground unavailable, we were originally scheduled to play at Williamstown for the third time in 5 weeks.
With Lachlan injured and not wanting to let the team down, he put his hand up to stand in goals for the first half.
Ground ball king Tom Martin killed them all day.  We found Will a player of similar height and judging by the conversation they had on the field during play they are now best mates.
Paige is doing a great job in front of goal, finding space away from her defender.  Our Ball taxi’s Ben, Aaron, Nathan and Tom B continue to run hard, intercept and most importantly bring every player into the game.
Great effort this week everyone.  Make the most of the last game.
Scorers Tom (bob)3 goals, Aaron 1-3, Ben 1-1.

Under 12’s Red Report by – Zac Ansell

Malvern Vs Chadstone Gold.

Result – Loss 19 – 3

Last week Malvern Red played against Caulfield, who beat us 18-3 four weeks ago.
This week, Malvern came to play against this well skilled  team. The game was goal for goal until Malvern hit the lead in the last few minutes before the siren! winning by one goal.
Malvern Red had a stellar game! Kudos to Joshie for attacking the ball all day and congratulations to Maddi, Tom and Allie for running up and down the field all day.
This game showed the coaches and parents how much the team had developed and improved over the season and how they will be ready for there last game next week.
