State League: vs Moreland 20-12
State League had an unconvincing 20-12 win over an enthused Moreland on the weekend, after a scrappy first half which meant Malvern went into the room 8-7 up at half time, however in the second half Malvern was able to pull away in the end outscoring moreland 12-5 in the second half.
Highlights included:
A Lazy 10 goals for Travis ‘Dip and Dunking Donuts’ Croll, who was almost automatic infront of the cage, except for his failed air gait which just went wide in the latter stages of the third quarter. However I am told by my sorces that he will be teaching his patented move to the young up and coming players of Malvern in the future.
Dominant display at the X by AJ, shredding the Moreland faceoff players in the second half with a textbook, textbook Ii repeat fast break demonstration after move forward.
A decision in Pats mind whether to attend to his pulled hamstring, dance, or continue going for the ball while it was in front of him. For those interested after pulling his hamstring he did infact continue to go for the loose ground ball, and only subbed (correctly i should add) off once the play was dead.
Stronger defensive pressure in the second half, smothering the Moreland attack.
Ollie Smith for strong running through the midfield and a beautiful assist in the last quarter to earn the hotly contested Grill’d award for a free burger.
Gazza’s hit in the forth quarter which left a Moreland player flat on his back, and accorind to Pat have had head hit the turf. One would assume Pat liked the hit from the huge “YEAH GAZZA” war(like)cry that would be heard from the bench to the greater Malvern area.

Division 1: vs Camberwell 8-7
Division 1 had close game all day with Camberwell, the lead changed constantly throughout the day. At end of the first quarter Camberwell was up by one by the halfway point Malvern was up by one, for the reset on the game it was goal for goal with Malvern scoring the final goal by Jake Coleman with 2 minutes left of play.
Both Jake Coleman and Michael Bown dominated the faceoff give us first control of the ball which was utilised by Mez Clough (1 goal), Callum Gerrard (2 goals) and Brad “Bad Boy” Blunt who scored 4 and 2 assists.
The defence played well with Bradley Skepper making many remarkable saves in the cage.
Division 3: vs Eltham 6-7
Rod Finnigan wrote:
Division 3 this week went out to Eltham, we got off to a good start with Rod Finnigan scoring the first of his 3 magnificent goals with a great assist from Cuzza in the first couple of minutes, things quickly turned around after this and scoring for both teams became difficult.
One of the highlights of the games was Jesse Coleman squeezing between two Eltham defenders and coming out with the ball, well done Jesse. Jeff Campbell got a corky in the first quarter and was unable to run for the rest of the game. Rod Ansell was his usual reliable self and had a good game.
It was great to see the backline playing so well with Robbie O’Donnell, Cam, Courtney, James Butler and of course Tom Benson in the cage holding the Eltham attack to only 7 goals. Toby had a tough game against an opponent twice his size and had his measure as the game went on, in the end we went down by 1 goal 7-6 bad luck guys.

Under 16’s: vs Chandstone 11-4

This week the U16 traveled to Chaddy to challenge a combined team of Chaddy and Camberwell. We were looking at our team list and with only 7 players the day wasn’t looking very good when we saw the other team had 14. After frantic phone calls we knew that Shorty and Sammy were on their way, but not in time for the start of the game.
We borrowed a player to start the game and played 8 a side for the first quarter and won it 5-1 with top scoring from Tom Benson, we started the next quarter man down with 9 players after giving their player back, and the boys continued on from there. Toby Exton dominated in the middle for the rest of the day and shared the scoring with Tom. The boys had help from Luca in the cage with a shut out in the 4th and helping them to a win 11-4.
Under 14’s: vs (Game 1) Chandstone 13-0 (Game 2) Eltham 9-4

Under 12 Black: vs (Game 1) Surrey Park 1-9 (Game 2) Caulfield 8-5

U/12 Black ventured to Caulfield to play their grading games this week. With a number of new players getting to know each other, we struggled to score against Surrey park. First gamer Maddie Croll played some strong defence and Aaron showed his lightening speed in the midfield. There were plenty of good signs when running the ball from defence into attack with good passing between Ally and Maddie Hourigan – Richmond. The end score was 1 – 9.
The second game against Caulfield was much better. The skill of all players was much higher, first gamer Rowan was a ground ball king. Kaleb and Tom worked hard on the attack in the first quarter to get us off to a flying start. Nathan (in his second match ever) volunteered to go in goals and had all the moves in the book, saving all that was thrown at him. Running hard all day in every position Ben and Lachlan got a lot of intercepts and with some good passing both boys scored goals. The end score was 8 – 5.
We are trying to give the players experience in all positions and whilst they may have their favourite position, each player tries their hardest in the position given to them each time they take the field.
Under 12 Reds: vs Williamstown Ferons 12-5
James Garret wrote:
The Reds made its way over the west gate bridge to a cold Williamstown over the weekend, coming away 12-5 victors.
A Strong team effort was evident with everyone managing to get atleast 1 assist, meaning the work load was shared around equally. Guy Exton showed a power of running through the midfield along with Dylan, Katie and Alex all provding strong support.
Elliot was a standout in goals, having a fantastic game, denying nearly everything in sight. While Ruper Smith was strong as ever in defence picking off passes and clearing the ball strongly into attack. Nick Maher provided a strong option in attack and through the midfield always ready to link up and leading strong to the ball.
A Special mention should go to first gamer Luke who managed to scoer a goal in his very first game while also having a strong game through the midfield and attack. Congrats Luke.
