Club Help?

Basically, we need help around the club.
This includes Sat morn bbq, canteen after games, roster for Thursday dinners (as above) so let’s get it done.
You don’t need to everything but if we all do our bit, it’s happy days.

Also if someone would like to help with Trivia night, past players day listing or any of the club functions we have can you make your presence known.
You can contact anyone at club, if you can help, and we’ll steer you in the right direction.
Also if anyone is free for ‘this Friday’ cleaning and stocking fridge as a once, can you also put your hand up.
We’d like to get someone with a petrol blower also, to give the front of the clubrooms a bit of a “whoosh”

Game Reports Old and New as I get them (hint hint)

State League

R2 – Malvern 10 Surrey Park 7
State League had a fresh chance to get back on track after last week scrappy loss.
My instructions were simple win the ball, keep it and run hard and fast at both ends. Stay out of the penalty box, move the ball with speed and move your feet and play smart. They did all this and we got a win.
From here on they need to bring the “Kill them all” attitude looking to destroy everyone they play.
10 goals 7 assists from 8 players is an excellent spread on the score sheet.
Remember “Go Black”
PS Love your Mum and Dad but don’t ask for money
Coach “Curly”

R3 – State League played MCC at home.
We opened up dominating the face off and getting first use.
With the late withdrawal of Jay B, Toby Exton stepped up into the Cage.
Toby was rewarded with the belt for a great game in the goal.
Ball and Foot  movement was good resulting in some nice goals.
The effort at ground balls was up and we did very well off the deck.
Combining these Basic factors along with some much more accurate shooting we were able to take control of the game. MCC were obviously under manned with some of their best players away, however we did play a good team game with some very positive improvement.
Next week we ALL go to Caulfield and we will be working hard on the track this week looking for our next lot of 4 points.
Gus.

Div 1

R2 and it was a trip out to the picturesque Eltham Lacrosse Club.
Like round 1, we had to be creative and dig deep to field a team, which we did, and with a couple of late withdrawals prior to the game we went in with nothing to lose.
The first quarter was played hard, and we couldn’t put the score on the board down 0-4.
With Fazz and Cam Mac in the team, we knew we could rely on their experience with some of our youth and the next couple of quarters we applied our trade.
At the last break we had worked back to 5-7 and knew we had to dig deep.
With Matt Davie roaming with a long stick, and Adrian Slattery and AJ putting in a couple of goals upto that point, we applied ourselves however couldn’t bring it home going down 12-8.
A real gutsy effort, and with some numbers back next week for all our senior men’s teams we can reset and get ourselves on the winners list.
Next week away at Footscray.

U17

R1 Malvern 14 Altona 0
First game we had 11 players. Overall we started and finished well Tim controlled face offs all day Aaron, Tom, Reedy and Baker were productive with team goals. Benny good in defence. Encouraging start for the season.
30th April away to Footscray be at ground 9.15 for 9.30 warm up.
Couch “Curly” Joy.

U15 Girls

R2 The girls had a slow start with only seven players warming up at start time. A couple of u13’s came from their came to bolster our numbers and Camberwell were nice enough to let us play 9 on 9
(a decision they may later have regretted! )
Emma geared up to play half in goals and did a great job, Brooke and Sarah were all over the ground with lightning speed and amazing skills. The young girls of Malvern are a pleasure to watch!
Danielle ran hard all day up and down the ground and was great defensively not letting her opponent near the ball!
Meg got a nice left handed goal and should have had two with one hitting the pipe and rebounding back to Emma. She scooped it up and also hit the pipe!
Half time Emma handed the goalie gear over to her twin Sarah who may have just found her new position!! Making saves everywhere she was awesome in the cage.
The east side girls finished with a solid win 11-4 against Camberwell.
Next week will be a tough opponent in Footscray so we will need to bring our A game and plenty of puff! No bench makes it hard but the girls are doing a great job 🙂

U11

R2 and it was Malvern v Eltham at the Chadstone Lacrosse Club.
Heading into the game it looked even, with eight (8) players on each team.
All concerns around a slow warm up were put to rest, with our kids exploding from the first whistle.
The tenacity, clean ground balls, hard running with and without the ball and excellent shooting set the tone for the entire game, and reinforces the skills developed at training.
Special me to our goalies for the day, Amalie,  Seth, Alastair and Riley who all stood tall and made some great saves (and couldn’t take the smile off their faces).
Quarter time was a 4-0 lead, extended to 9-1 (half time), 11-2, and a pleasing 15-4 win.
The smiles, mate ship, and skills are for all
to see, and sets a great grounding for team members early in their careers who are learning the basics.
Next week, another challenge,

R3 – U11’s headed to MCC to take on Wiliamstown.
A great morning greeted us and it was going to be a tough game given we are still down a couple of players.
Williamstown got off to a great start, and with Seth, Riley and Amalie working hard in the middle we kept ourselves in the game.
The younger brigade of Toby and Jasper made cameo appearances and a couple of spins while the game was going on around them which was great to watch.
Alastair stood tall in goals, and the experience and work rates of Will and Liam is satisfying to watch.
At the last change it was 4-10, and with a big last quarter and 3 goals to Amalie we fought back to lose 9-12.
Next week our first home game v Surrey

Adam
