Match Reports
State League
Malvern defeated Camberwell 16 to 5
Equal top spot
A slow warm up and a goal to Camberwell in the first minute of play wasn’t part of the plan but the players stuck hard to the task and ground down an opponent we on paper should beat by 10.
Patty McGrath Campbell dominated the middle again and is beginning to not only win the ball but creating fast breaks and good transition which added around 6 terrific team goals for us on the day.
Toby Exton lead the way with contested ground balls and has adapted well to the role we have given him and will win more than one best and fairest at the club before he is done.
Josh Naughton controlled X with 1 and 4 and Shane Koppens got 6 and 3 and both will be a huge part of the next 4 weeks.
We have Williamstown at Williamstown to finish of a great season but a slip this Saturday will send us to 3rd and the players don’t deserve that.
This Sat is our first Final and we will prepare as such.
We have as little as 2 and as many as 4 games to go..

Division 1
Last game for the Div One boys before the finals series and it was fairly textbook for our boys in black. Cam Mac was solid as always and Adam was handy scoring 3 in their 11-4 victory over the Melb Uni boys. This week will see a much tougher game against Moreland in the first final, Last two hit outs against Moreland have been close so we will need to be on our toes and play 4 quarters of good Lacrosse.
Good Luck Boys
Division 3
It must be getting close to the finals as Division 3 put weeks of ordinary form behind them and played disciplined Lax for pretty much the whole game leaving Surrey Park thinking what was that. With MLC shutting them out after 1/4 time. It was wonderful to see an undermanned team fight their way through a game.
Bring on the Finals this week.
B Grade Women’s
Playing at home for the last game of the home & away season was sure to be a win!!
Missing Tara, Michelle, Elle, Ivy & Phoebe again left a small bench of 1 to run and unfortunately at the end of the first half Maddi went down with an injury.
The girls all did a great job pulling together rotating through attack and D giving the middies’ a breather when needed. Great team work was displayed and patience around the attack resulted in goals, not to mentions some terrific fast breaks.
Romy sitting at the top of the B Grade leaders’ board added 6 to her tally and along with Nina’s 2 and Katie’s’ 1 gave the girls a 9-3 win.
Katie & Maddi do a great job each week coming straight from their ‘U18’s game and we wish Maddi all the best for her travels to Adelaide next month with Fire & Ice.
Next week’s final against Surrey at Caulfield isn’t going to be a walk in the park, I’m sure they will want to make the girls pay for their win in their last match up, but with almost everyone back in next week, let the battle begin!!

Malvern 29 def Chadstone 1
The U16s always enjoy playing Chadstone as they come up against past and present school mates and fellow Southern Crosse team members.
From the start it was Malvern all the way against a Chadstone team with some of their more experienced players out with injuries.
Malvern played 1 down till the inventory from U14’s arrived from Footscray to provide an enthusiastic bench.
Malvern goals were scored by many and in the last quarter the twins were rested for their Grand Final footy match the next day. [Commiserations fellas].
We are now finals bound and ready for the first finals match next week at Altona.
Just remember…Good Hard Malvern Lacrosse!

U/14 Boys Malvern Def Footscray 15-7
Last game of the Home and Away season for the 14’s and they had an unbeaten record to keep intact. With Benny sick and Tom M away it was going to be tough with only one on the bench, Footscray were typically physical and the game plan was to keep their main (and pretty much only) goal scorer to a minimum score. Thomas was outstanding in the centre giving us first use of the ball every time, and took the role of keeping their scorer at bay. Sam and Aaron helped Thom out and did a fantastic job keeping him to only one goal for the match. Thom also scored 4G 4A for the game, Aaron was his usual dangerous self around the cage scoring 4G 2A with Sam also adding to the score line, Lochie made good position on the crease and finally hit the back of the net after making the goalie his target for the first three shots. Sam and George were amazing running the ball out of defence taking some huge hits from the Footscray boys but got back up and kept running, Mitch Baker had a great first half in goals then came out for a run to give an injured Harry Lowe a break from his rock solid defence to stand in the cage and save a few from there. Kaileb continues to improve every week and his speed and running off the wing are a huge asset to the team, Ryan is finding his place in attack making great cuts and scoring for the team. Mitch Reid had an awesome game, his improvement week to week is also great to watch, he added three goals to the tally also. Harry Arthur was on the receiving end of a massive crosscheck that had him seeing stars and to Harry’s credit, after taking a few minutes on the bench was straight back into the play. The thing that makes our boys the team to beat come finals time is the fact that we have at least 6-7 goal scorers every week, it wont matter if teams try to shut down our experienced kids like Az, and Thom because we have 5 more kids that will step up and score for us. We don’t just have a team with a few great players we are a great TEAM!! And that what will get us over the line this week against Willi.
9 AM AT FOOTSCRAY – FIRST SEMI FINAL, THESE KIDS WILL BE THERE TO CHEER ON ALL OF OUR SENIOR TEAMS IN FINALS – MAKE SURE YOU ARE THERE TO CHEER THEM ON THIS WEEK!!!!!
