A big well done to Maddi Croll for making the under 15’s Vic fire and ice team

How our teams are going this year with one game or two games if you State League to go

State League 2nd

Must beat Willy in the last round to stay 2nd

Div 1 4th

Can not go out of the 4

Div 3 4th
Should be 2nd if not for Surrey park playing an american under a false name and dropping half their div 1 team in the first round.
We gave up our home ground and played under lights at their ground to help them out cause they couldn’t field a div 3 team on Saturday.
I vote we do them another favour next year.

Match Reports

State League

Malvern 10 defeated Eltham 5
Won 12 lost 2 for season
Equal top spot on the ladder

Bob Russell Cup at the Town Hall.
Eltham are a proud club and we new it would be tough contest and that proved to be the case with some tough ground balls and body checks the format of the day. We welcomed back Nick LeGuen and a Jet lagged Shane Koppens but lost James Garrett with a broken thumb and wish him well with his recovery.
We got the win and our defence is on top of its game going into the finals which is a great place to be and finding a way to the back of the net our only concern.

Camberwell this week again at the Town Hall and we will experiment with some different set ups in attack before Williamstown at Williamstown who we now must beat to secure an important top 2 spot.

There are as little as 3 and as many as 5 games left this year for our State League Team, for the first time in 11 years we fully control our own destiny in every sense…..

Division 1

After some lack luster performances over the past few weeks, Div 1 needed to cement this win in any attempt to generate some momentum going forth into finals contention.

Being the lead up game to S/L this week we wanted to make sure that ‘Div 1’ was going to set the ball rolling for S/L to follow.

Patches of great play were reward for guys turning up to training and doing the ‘team thing’ and putting in the hard yards.

None more so than ‘Billy’ getting the first goal in the opening minutes to lead us off.

Jay directed the defense and they worked together well in keeping the Eltham attack honest and accounted for.

Through the middle we controlled most of the attention with Cam and Squeak getting us the ball the majority of the time.

Man ups were executed down the forward line and the score board ticked over at a steady pace.

Saturday we have Melbourne Uni away that needs to be another ‘team game’ where we fine-tuned our plays before the first final against Moreland.

Training is where we are going to make it happen, so make sure you get there to help in doing your bit for the team.

Division 3

Malvern got away to a good start and should have won the chocolates pretty easily, if they had of kept playing the same way. Instead we converted to individual, play by going after individual glory. Shooting from outside and not using the extra pass. Selfish play will lose us more games than team work will.
Camberwell got level with us in the dying minutes only to have the old heads of Malvern stepping up and using the ball the correct way with Malvern wining by 1

B Grade Women’s

Malvern travelled to Camberwell to play under very windy conditions to come away with the win 11-9 against Camberwell.
A great show of support for the girls with many Players from the mens teams down there.

Under 18’s

Under 16’s

Under 14’s

Saturday morning had us going up against Eltham at the Town Hall.

With Eltham a few players down, that didn’t mean that we could take it easy.

As in our first meeting out at Eltham this year, they proved to be a very hard hitting team and never let up.

Sam took up position in the goals for the first half and didn’t get too much attention down that end as Malvern had first use of the ball most times out of the middle.

Some good passages of play between all players saw Malvern get away to a good lead by half time.

Mitchell Baker jumped into goals to give Sammy some ‘game time’ for the last half.

Training was starting to show its rewards as Malvern continued to dominate the game walking away winners at the end.

Next week is Footscray away so that proves to be another ‘physical’ encounter, which will lead up to the first final the following week.

Under 12 Black’s

Under 12 Red
