Hole in one golf competition
Malvern Lacrosse is having it’s first ever hole in one golf competition in the next few weeks.
Balls and clubs provided, so there is nothing to bring apart from yourselves.
Message from the committee
“Have you got trophies sitting in a cupboard that are only collecting dust but are in good condition. If yes, then wold you consider taking off the name plates and donating them to the club. The club will go with the modern tend and recycle old trophies for the juniors.
Just bring any trophies down to the club and give them to a committee member”

With Nick LeGuen and Shane Koppens out from the first time we played them finding a way to they cage was always our biggest challenge and turned into reality as the game went on. We started out in strong attack patterns that were turning defensive heads and some easy goals were there for the taking but as the pressure grew our patience and smarts in the front half ran out and all credit for Surrey Park showing us what is required with tough contested ground balls and smart lacrosse. Defensively we were good and Dave Gal, Nick Longo, Dale Croll, John Lillburn and Matt Arthur all playing solid roles.
We lost the game because we were clearly out hustled on contested ground balls and giving away “stupid” penalties will cost us every time in big games
The good news is the same game last year they beat us 21 to 4 and we returned the favour in the finals, we do have quality players to come back in, we will work on some things that didn’t go right and be back bigger and better.
Division 1
Bye
Division 3
Well what can I say about this one. Malvern underestimated Bendigo’s improvement this year. Bendigo came out and showed us how to play team lacrosse.
Looking at an almost certain defeat we were struggling to say the least. Then as in all great western movies the Cavalry arrived…. The Juniors got the team going and started to make a comeback 8-4 down at half time.
Malvern finally got their head in front 11-10 with minutes to go.
We certainly need to have a good hard look at ourselves if we want to go deep into the finals this year.
B Grade Women’s
Malvern B Grade Women took on Footscray on a warm Sunday afternoon at the Town Hall where the ground conditions were close to perfect.
It was a must win game for Malvern to keep their finals hopes alive. The game was quite physical and intense at times which is something most of the Malvern players had not experienced in their somewhat short careers but they held their nerve and frustrations and played close to their best “all around” game for the season to convert a half time lead of 7 – 1 into a solid 12 – 4 win. With only 12 players everyone got plenty of game time and on many occasions players wanted to be subbed instead of needing to be asked.
Romy and Tara led the scoring with 3 each ( a good effort from Tara who started the game a little frazzled following a run in with Met Inspectors on her way to the game!), Katie B 2 goals with singles from Maddie, Sarah, Kate and Nina.
Many players had close to their best games with Rochelle making many intercepts / knockdowns and Ivy picking up plenty of ground balls and making clears from D whilst once again Bruiser was solid in the net.
Sarah did well in the Centre and around the ground and was well supported by Ams and Claire who were both very good on ground balls. Maddie showed good skills under pressure carrying the ball in both the midfield and attack.
It was pleasing to see that many of the skills we have been practicing are now starting to show in games with a number of goals scored from good cuts and feeds. Players are moving more in attack with and without the ball and creating plenty of scoring opportunities. If we can improve our shooting percentages we can be a real threat when the finals come around.
Once again the players appreciated the great support from the spectators who have braved the elements all year to support the girls.

U/13 Girls Def by Williamstown Swans 7-8
Again our girls took the field against a much bigger side in Williamstown Swans this week, but what we lack in size we make up in determination and improving skills, only going down by one goal with a chance to equalise in the last seconds of the game, we missed Mitch this week who is trying our for the boys u/15 Southern Team for the next few Sunday mornings and Jacinta was out again with an arm injury this week, and Eden and Ashley were sick. Paige Jenna and Brooke took control through the midfield making great passes and catches all game with Lochie stepping out of goals for a cameo goalie performance from an older sibling we called ‘Eden’ for the game to get us up to 9 players, and doing a great job for the girls defensively. Emma and Sarah have improved greatly over the past few weeks and their confidence catching and throwing is showing throughout the matches not to mention their awesome ground ball skills!! Meg ran onto long bombs from the defence line often beating her much taller opponent to the ball. Although the girls lost by a goal it was a fantastic game and great result for our girls – Well done

Malvern 23 – Caulfield/MCC 3
The sun was shining and it was a much more pleasant experience watching and playing the game compared to last week. Another big win for the boys, but to the oppositions credit they did contest hard which is exactly what we needed in the lead up to next week’s game against second placed Footscray.
We had two new special guest players this week from the U14’s, Mitch Reid and Mitchell (Kevin Rudd) Baker. Mitch was great in the midfield and Kevy played in goals, both were fantastic and they really enjoyed the game. Good luck to both of them as well as the other 3 midgets, Azza, Tom and Ben as they begin the trials for this year’s Southern Crosse team. The club has been well represented in past years and I am sure this year will be no exception.
The main goal scorers this week were, Chappo 7 and 2, Jordy 4 and 7, Rupert 3 and 3 and Azza 3 and 1.
Next week we come up against Footscray, who are our biggest competition. This will be a big test leading up to the finals campaign.

U/14 Boys Def MCC/Knox 26-0
Another dominating performance from our U/14 team with a shut out over MCC/Knox 26-0. Plenty of great passages of play, including Harry Arthur and Harry Lowe with some great defensive work down the field and Kaileb in his first time in goals making a few great saves. Aaron Currie and Mitch Baker both top scored with 7 goals each, along with Lochie, Thom,Benny, George, Sam, Tom and Mitch adding to the scoreline. Ryan did some great work in the face off and ran hard all game, this week the boys have some much needed tougher competition, heading over to Moreland to take on the combined team of Moreland/Surrey Park.
