Malvern 11 defeated Chadstone 7
Won 10 lost 1 for season
We sit a game clear on top of the ladder for the first time in 11 years.
I real test for us as Chadstone have included 4 Americans and a quality goal keeper to their list in 2013 and it didn’t start well for us as they raced to a 3 goal to nil lead and a time out to get the boys heads back in the game and a 4 goal to nil second term had us back on track by the half. The third quarter we put the foot down and pulled away to a 10 to 4 lead but a few late goals from Chadstone is a sign again that we still aren’t a team that is fully switched on for a whole game. but with the other teams in the top 4 having losses we now find ourselves on top of the ladder a game clear and another finals campaign locked in for the Red and Black in 2013. Patt Mac, James Garret, David Gal, Callum Gerard and Nic Longo played well and this week against Surray Park without A.J, and Shane will be our biggest test yet as a group.
We must now train, act and play like the number one team in the competition, to do that the team will also need to play 100 minutes of lacrosse in the finals to be successful, but it is in sight now…
By the time you read this you may be aware of my decision not to Coach Malvern in 2014 and beyond, my time with these players will come to an end after our last game in 2013 and for the sake of these players and their dedication to the club you know l will give everything l can to make that one that includes celebrating a well earned Grand Final win.
Go Black…
Division 1
The game turned out about as well as the weather did at Surrey Park last week for a depleted Div 1 team. Lots of positives and great scoring from our boys but not enough on the day going down to a strong Surrey side 6-15. Thank you to Geoff, Travis and Dylan for making the journey from footscray out to Surrey after Div 3 were given a walk over. Great to see the return of Zac Ansell certainly hasn’t lost it, and hopefully wasn’t just a cameo appearance.
Division 3
Walk over
B Grade Women’s
The U/13 girls took the trek out to an icy Surrey Park on Sunday to play our neighbours Camberwell (gotta love the junior girls Lacrosse fixturing!!) It turned out to be worth the trip with the girls coming away with the 4 points beating Camberwell 12-6. I know I harp on about the improvement of these girls a lot, but it really is amazing to see the level of improvement each week. Their catching and throwing is great and I’m thinking of recruiting a few of the to play in the senior team to show us how its done. Well Done Guys and another big thank you to Mitchell and Lochie for stepping up and helping these girls out each and every week – without you guys 8 girls would not be able to play each week, so good work boys the club thanks you ( and your mums are proud )
Under 18’s
Under 16’s
We have two reports for the under 16’s this week.
The U/16’s only had 9 this week so were topped up again with the ‘midgets’ from the U/14’s to take on the combined Moreland/Eltham team. The weather was not kind and conditions were poor, however this didnt effect our highly skilled group of under 16 kids and they were once again a dominant force taking the win 26-5. Jordan Campbell finished with an amazing 2 goals 10 assists!! Nic Chapman 9 Goals 3 Darcy 8 goals 1 along with a group of other goal scorers these boys look hard to beat.
Malvern 26 def Eltham 5
U16’s ventured out to Eltham last week for a wet and cold game of lacrosse.
Chairs, umbrellas and warm coats were left behind by many of their followers but all involved stood united – cold, wet but enthusiastic!
Thanks to the U14 team and the 3 midgets for not playing with their team so they could get to Eltham on time to assist with a bench, a few extra goals and some very good lacrosse [even from B Chappo who used on a long pole for the 1st time!]
N Chappo topped the goals with 9 followed closely by Darcy with 8 and Jordy with 10 assists and 2 goals.
Everyone played really well in very cold, wet conditions.
A big thanks to the recuperating Joe Maher who should have been home in the warmth and not scoring under a leaking shelter.
Go Good Malvern Lacrosse!
Under 14’s
The U/14’s came up against bottom of the table Camberwell Blue this week and given their previous dominance it was decided that Thom, Aaron and Benny would skip the U/14 game and help out the short U/16’s that were playing out at freezing Eltham, as they were be no time to get to both games this week.
It was great for the rest of the U/14’s to step up and show everyone what they had and Mitch Reid and Ryan shined, along with Tom Martin in Goals and Sam and Kaileb running through the middle. The boys skills were a little sloppy but they came away with a convincing win 11-4.
