State League
Malvern 16 defeated Footscray 14 (overtime)
Won 9 lost 1 for Season
At this point of the season we have won the same thing as last year….Nothing!!
A real sense the boys were flat in the warm up turned out to be true as we fumbled our way through the first quarter and a half with no desire or passion, I hate wasting time outs to give the players a spray for poor efforts and slack attitudes but again found myself doing just that. It is happening more and more that they don’t respond until l do it and this probably a sign that my time with this group may be coming to an end sooner rather than later. This is not a criticism of the players but more a reflection of a reality.
We bought Shane Koppens up to the Midfield and AJ to the forward line and that probably won us the game, Josh’s 3 goals in overtime were also the sign of a terrific leader. Footscray are a terrific and proud club that will figure highly in the finals this year and we will beat them and anyone if we play our lacrosse with want and desire that starts from within.
Was great to have A.J. back but we need D Croll, Leguen, Fish and Rohan back on the track asap as well.
Caulfield next week will test us again.

Our defence was slow to start and strong to finish, however today showed the winds of change. Defence was tight right from the start no one was breaking through the walls and Bruiser made a lot of fantastic saves. The pressure we were putting on Altona produced plenty of turn overs, with only one on the bench and Heading over the Bridge to sunny Altona this week the girls where all fired up for a hard game. In the past a full bench for Altonait was set to be a tiring day.
The ball was moved around attack waiting for opportunities to open, with Ams scoring our first goal of the day. At half time the score was 4-3 Altona up, with confidence up it was set to be a feisty second half.
Nothing changed in the second half, pressure was still on, the ball moved in attack, unfortunately they got the better of us with their shooting and winning most of the ground balls, with the same amounts of shots taken we just picked the wrong spot. We only scored one more goal in the second half. The final score does in no way reflects on how we played, Sarah running hard and putting on the pace lead by example everyone kept their heads up and fought hard to the end. The final score being 19-4 with 1 goal scored each by Ams, Nina, Tara and Kate.
Next game we are set to have everyone back and fired up for a home game against Willy.
Thanks to both the injured Squeak and Chris for sharing the reffing and Boppa for scoring whilst Sandie is away
Under 18’s
Saturday 29 June 2013
The under 18’s travelled to the Fleming ground at Moreland to play MES. Unlike their previous encounter, Malvern were much more competitive this time around, and the two teams played a very high standard game. MES were quick off the mark and took an early lead, which unfortunately our boys could not pull back. Despite some great work around the goals by Sam Anglicas (four goals) and Mike Petrisch (two), MES were just too strong and took the game by 11 goals to 7.
The score would have been more one way if not for the strong defence put up by our back line with Rob Lowe and Sam Fitchett, and Darian in goals.
