Malvern 7 lost to Williamstown 8 (overtime)
Won 7 lost 1 for season
Past players day at the club, a beautiful day and great to see a big crown turn up to support the Red and Black.
With everything to play for with 2 unbeaten teams it was a tough hard day for all players and a low scoring slug fest that’s as it should be in a Williamstown/Malvern game of lacrosse. Games of lacrosse in a finals like atmosphere like Saturday mostly come down to the team that does the 1 percent things better and credit to Williamstown for doing exactly that, we have come a long way over the last few years but need to recognize that playing the front hip in defence, ground balls and sloppy turn overs in attack are what cost us the win, nothing else……….
The good news is we had Nick Leguen and Rohan Anglicas injured and Steven Fisher away with work and to still get that close was a credit to the players on the day with Malvern now developing a appetite for big games and we will have another day and time against the old enemy soon enough.
Great game by David Gal in the cage and to not receive any votes after being clearly our best player is again the reason l have been saying for 40 years that the umpires are in no position to be handing out votes at the end of a game..
Let the opposition coach call them, he knows who hurt his side…
Footscray this week again and home and with a week of after a win is important to claw back momentum going into the break.

B Grade Women’s
Malvern vs Melbourne University
Result: Win 20 – 5
Despite getting off to a slow start, the Malvern girls delivered another convincing win against Melbourne Uni on Sunday.
In terms of numbers, we were a little light on this week, with only three on the bench compared to our usual six, and the match started with 3 quick centre possessions and goals from MU. However, Malvern was quick to respond after an early rev-up from Rocket, evening out the score to 3-all shortly after.
Due to some excellent team work and ball movement down the field, Malvern powered ahead to lead the game by 8 goals at half time, with a score of 12-4. The second half saw some more great play, culminating in a solid victory, and Lauren’s first goal!
There were a total of 8 scoring players for the game, illustrating the cooperative effort from all on the day. Worth a special mention was Romy’s ‘unexpected’ goal from the restraining line (Good leave, Annemarie!).

MALVERN U/13 GIRLS DEF BY WILLIAMSTOWN PELICANS 11-5
The Malvern Girls got off to a great start against the Top side in Williamstown, and looked pretty flash in their new uniforms kindly donated by Con Loulatzis, thanks Con. The half time break saw them just one goal behind the much older and more experienced Williamstown girls, but with no bench our girls struggled to find the legs to run them into open positions to offer a pass for their team mates, and the Willi girls ran over the top of them, still an outstanding effort from a group of girls who are always the smallest and youngest girls on the field and who are playing their first season in girls Lacrosse. If you can get down to watch these girls early on Sunday mornings they would love it, this week should be a close match against the McKinnon team at Caulfield.

Malvern 28 – Williamstown 1
This week’s win was our biggest for the season to date. Of the 28 goals scored we had 8 different goal scorers, each getting at least 2 goals with 3 players top scoring with 5. Even more pleasing 21 of those goals were assisted. A very even team game with every player contributing. The only player not to get warm was Alex in goals, as Willy only took the one shot for the whole game.
We had plenty of rotations this week with most players spending some time in defence at some stage during the game. Darcy was fantastic again with the long pole, along with Nick and Toby. They had the opposition well covered.
Jordy spent most of the game in face off and consistently won the ball. In the last quarter we scored 10 goals, so he was kept pretty busy. Nic, Rupert and Aaron were out top goal scorers and were brilliant in attack. We had a really nice goal from Mav and a great shot from Ben that deserves a mention. Paul and Alex were great on ground balls. A highlight from the first quarter was a ground ball from Alex under pressure, he picked up the ball dodged some heavy traffic and sprinted down the field. An amazing piece of play for a first year player.
This week we have a tougher game against Camberwell at home, before a two week break for the school holidays.

MALVERN U/14’s V WILLIAMSTOWN – 6-6 DRAW
The U 14 team finally came up against some competition last week against a very strong Williamstown side, it was a low scoring game, which showed some great pressure and defence form both sides, the improvement in the new U/14 kids is amazing. After being just in front all game, Williamstown levelled the score with 6 seconds remaining in the game so the draw was a little disappointing, but not facing Willi again until finals time it will give us something to work on against the lesser teams for them remainder of the season. Ryan, Mitch Reid (pipes) and Kaileb proved they have come a long was since the start of the season with some great dodging and ball handling from Mitch as well as super tough defence along with Kaileb, Ryan and George’s speed up the field they are very handy additions to the team. Harry Lowe and Thom Martin are becoming a strong defensive duo on our back line. Thomas Aaron Ben and Sam showed again their experience and all played an awesome game, along with Lochie they were our scorers for the day. Special mention to Mitch Baker for an outstanding game in the cage, definitely an up and coming goal keeper for Malvern in the future.
