State League Report by – Glenn Meredith
Malvern Vs Camberwell.
Result – Loss 12 – 13
Probably our worst loss for the season, with all respect to Camberwell they are relying on 3 or 4 players to get them up each week, we have spent the year trying to develop an even spread on contributors, Josh Naughton was outstanding and our defence fair, scoring goals is and has been our problem all season.
With respect to Mike Kenlay in 2010 we are relying on Josh Naughton, James Garrett, Billy Exton, AJ, Callum Gerard, Toby Exton and Luca to get the job done in attack, l urge them to be patient as they have an average age of 18 and it will happen for them with hard work and a mindset of success.
Next week Williamstown at Williamstown…….
Why not……………….
Division 1 Report by – Brendon Farrell
Malvern Vs Moreland.
Result – Loss 3 – 9
Division One travelled out to Moreland for a game on a cold day.
In the first quarter Moreland had control of the ball for about 75% of the time but even so did not score and neither did we, the first goal of the game was scored halfway through the second quarter.
At half time the score was 3-1 Moreland’s way and we were certainly still in with a chance, in the third quarter we must have gone to sleep as we let in 4 goals, in the end the old legs of the team gave out and we were not able to run through all the mud.
Luca Letteri played a brilliant game in goals and was our best player.
This week we have Camberwell at the Town Hall.
Under 18’s
Malvern Vs Eltham.
Result – Won 12 – 8
Under 16’s Report by – David Joy
Malvern Vs Eltham.
Result – Won 23 – 5
A much improved overall team effort saw us playing some good lacrosse.
Once again we dominated the faceoffs taking full advantage of the breaks created out of the centre.
Having a set goalie in Darcy Campbell doing a sound job, the talk has increased and with that a better overall defence.
DILLAN HUBBARD played a very strong team oriented game and has continued to improve each week. The speedster of the team Zac Boulter scored 4 goals with some great loose ball gets.
Our scorers this week were –
Toby Exton 7-2
Dillan Hubbard 5-2
Zac Boulter 4-0
Sammy Anglicas 2-1
Michael Petrich 2-0
Luca Letteri , Corey Hubbard and Joe Blakeney 1 each.
The team wishes Luca, James and Toby all the best with the under 17 state team in Perth this week.
The under 16s will be away to Melb High School (western oval) Brunswick.
Under 14’s Report by – Gus Campbell
Malvern Vs Melbourne High School.
Result – Won 16 – 2
Good Effort Boys,
We were a bit rusty in the first quarter but got going after that.
Great to have Guy Exton back on board. Guy makes a big difference.
We swapped players around a bit this week and had Jordy and Chappy on the backline for the first half.
Jordy came out of the D and dumped a nice assist to his cousin. Hugo opened up in the face off
and had Nick Kolotsis backing him up. Well done Hugo and Nick, You “brained them”.
Our ground ball success rate was a bit higher this week but we still need to improve in this area.
We still need to shoot a bit better as we are making goalies look better than they really are.
The talk in general is getting better and we are becoming more confident especially as we have our team mates telling us when we are HOT.
The Risers this week go to Alex and Pauly L for playing a half game in goals each.
In all a good team effort with 14 Contributors
Malvern 16 v Melbourne High 2
Tips for the week.
When running down the field with the ball, keep your stick in front of your face.
Do not hang out the dirty washing.
You are all on school Hols and do not have homework so Practice with your stick against a brick wall
and get some groundball practice.
Enjoy your 2 week break and get rid of your injury niggles.
